Easter Parade Help Needed
ABYC and the Beaches Lions Club Easter Parade

ABYC has participated in the Beaches Easter Parade for many, many years. I have been coordinating ABYC's entry for the past 8 years or so.

Easter is March 27th this year - coming up early!
This year we are need of a tow vehicle to tow the Jack Cameron. If you have a tow vehicle or know of anyone please let me know.

Also, if anyone wants to volunteer for this event please let me know and I can tell you what is involved.
You can reach me at 416-520-6247 or email John Chittley

Family Movie Night

We had a fantastic response to our request for family information!
25 families have replied  ( 21 Senior & 4 Associate ) with a total of 42 kids from 6 mths to 12 years .
The various committee's ie. cruising, family race & entertainment are being very supportive so hopefully we can enhance the club experience for families.

Our first initiative is a family movie night so we can all get together and that is being planned for a Saturday in April before launch.  (Thank you for the replies re a preferred day)

Keep an eye on Ship to Shore & I will of course e-mail you when I have the details.
60 more sleeps to launch!

Casa Ballman Workshop

There are lamp stands & glass globes in Casa Ballman that need to be accounted for before they are damaged & tossed out.
Please inform Gus Gillespie or Joe Simpson of ownership.
Thanks!

ABYC Yard Master Appointment

The members are advised that Adam Rees has been appointed ABYC 'Yard Master'.
The Yard Master at ABYC has many responsibilities. One of the most important responsibilities is ensuring the Club grounds and yard are kept tidy. However, keeping the yard tidy is not a one-man job and I'm appealing to all club members to do their part.

Please join me in welcoming Adam to this important position.
As Yard Master, Adam will be the Chair of the Yard Committee. If you wish to serve on the Yard Committee, please contact Adam  or Erik.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank David Duckworth for his services to the Club in the position of Yard Master over the last several years. Thank you David!

Toonie Thursday -
Ron Bianchi

Weather Guru Ron Bianchi - March 10 - 7:00 PM

Ron Bianchi wears many hats. He is a meteorologist by profession and a sailor among his various hats. He is a genuine believer in mind-opening encounters with the science of meteorology and how to use it to your advantage. Ron is the official weather analyst for the Ontario 300.

Weather maps provide a simplified depiction of the current or predicted weather conditions. They can be based on satellite and radar images, recordings from instruments at weather stations, and computer analysis. This lecture covers the most common you will come across on the internet and how to read them properly, especially when they are applied to the marine environment.

The lecture will cover the basics of the weather map, the different types available, short term analysis and forecasting using the current weather map, simple and the most relevant Apps available to track weather systems.

Come out and be entertained while learning many new valuable tips about how to be more weather savvy on water and on land.

Work Party Season

Weekend Update

Update for this Saturday's work party is that the contractor has begun driving sheets, but will likely not finish the space between blue and green docks, and therefore we will have little to no wall repair jobs that can be done by the members for this Saturday.  We can probably start Saturday March 12th, but I will confirm that in next week's S2S.

Stay tuned!

Entertainment

Fine Dining and Fine Music

This Friday  March 4  at 7pm

Guitarist and Senior Member Dick Binsley Serenades

Dick is an accomplished guitarist, singer, a thespian (Murdoch Mysteries is a well known gig for him) and will present an eclectic repertoire of tasteful tunes to accompany your ABYC fine dining experience. Dick will also be featuring an original song written for ABYC. Please reserve your table or listen from the bar for this first time event at ABYC.

Terry Fagan
Our Friend Meredith Cutting will return to ABYC on Friday March 11, 2016. Meredith will begin playing with a quiet set at 7:30, so that we can enjoy our dinner with a nice musical background. After dinner he will pick up the tempo and we can spend some time on the dance floor. And, of course, he will be joined by the ABYC Chorus who will assist him with The Train they call the City of New Orleans.

The Entertainment Committee hopes you will come out and join in the fun and fine dining at the best Yacht Club on Lake Ontario.

So come out and kick back for an evening with Meredith!

From Your Race Committee Update

Advance Notice - Ontario Sailing Seminars at ABYC

Racing requires two things; racers; and the race committee -- it sets the sailing instructions, the course, the start, the finish, and does the scoring. At ABYC, we have a strong history of great performance in both areas, with members who have achieved club, regional, national, and international levels as judges and race officers.

We are always looking to increase the number of experienced race officers and mark layers so that we can spread the workload for our club races, our regattas, and when we return the favour at other clubs and help them run regattas.

Level 1 for both race officer and mark layer is the assistant level, and is intended to get you comfortable with the objectives and routines on a committee or mark boat so that you can help get things done efficiently.

Level 2 is the race chair, or lead on a mark boat. These people take responsibility for getting the job done, and set the direction for the assistants.

You can take both level 1 and 2 courses at the same time, and once you have experience, get certified at each level in turn.

Help your club maintain the history of strong performance in race management; take some time to learn more, so you can help more.

Course 1 March 5 & 6: Level 1 and 2 Race Officer Course
Cost $75.71 per person.
Saturday, March 5, 2016 - 9:00am - 5:00pm
Sunday, March 6, 2016 - 9:00am - 4:00pm

Course 2 May 14 & 15: Level 1 & 2 Mark Layer Prerequisite Seminar
Cost $75.71 per person
Saturday, May 14, 2016 - 9:00am - 4:30pm
Sunday, May 15, 2016 - 9:00am - 4:30pm

ABYC will reimburse the cost for members who take one or both courses and then contribute 7 hours of Race Committee work in 2016.

The courses are open to members of any OSA club, not just ABYC.
