March 11, 2015
SOON!

There were abundant signs of spring early this week as we walked around ABYC.  The very active birds, snow melting everywhere and muddy ground where there had been snow.

New Members' Night - Saturday March 28

Be sure to mark Saturday, March 28 on your calendars to attend ABYC's New Members' Night.  The Membership Committee invites all to attend this important event to welcome new members to the Club.

It is an opportunity for members who have joined over the past year to meet more established members of the Club, in a fun and relaxed manner.

Come on down to the Club and meet our new members.

ABYC Corinthian Athlete (and Dinghy Member) Sarah Douglas has earned a place on the Canadian National Sailing Team.

Most recently Sarah placed 14th in a fleet of 117 Laser Radials at the Laser Midwinters East in Clearwater Florida, proving her ability to compete at high caliber events. When she's not pursuing her degree at Guelph, training with the National Team, or racing at international events Sarah is a valued guest coach at the ABYC Sailing School.

Congratulations Sarah!

From Sarah's Facebook Page:

I am officially a carded athlete!!!

Thank you very much for all the support. I wouldn't have gotten here without all the support from my family, friends, training partners, coaches, trainers and Ashbridge's Bay Yacht Club (ABYC)

Last Friday about 60 members and guests turned out at the club for an evening with Meredith Cutting.  The kitchen staff heaved a sigh of relief as Friday Night Fine Dining has been pretty slow in recent weeks.  But cold weather didn't keep us away this time and once again we were provided with a fine evening with Meredith's mellow voice and great command of his 12 string guitar.

Meredith constantly changes his program mixing in some of his traditional songs with new numbers.  Friday we heard several Johnny Cash numbers much to the pleasure of Johnny Cash fans like me.  We also heard a nice selection of Irish songs leading up to St. Patrick's Day mixed in with some Scottish and Do
wn East music.

Following a long tradition The ABYC Chorus lead by David Gilbert joined Meredith in the singing of "The City of New Orleans"

As the evening wore on some of us even got up to do some dancing.

We will probably see our friend Meredith around the club this summer as his son Steve and his Viking 28 are joining our fleet.
