THAT DOESN'T LOOK RIGHT!

The ice in our bay is starting to affect our docks.  So far damage is limited to only
one finger dock thanks to the efforts of our very dedicated "Bubbler Crew".

On May 27, 1978, a crew of 3 including ABYC Member Bernie Caron left Halifax N.S on a 32' sailboat and reached Plymouth, England 23 days later.

Come to ABYC Thursday, March 12 for this month's installment of Toonie Thursdays to hear Bernie describe what it is like to sail a small boat across the North Atlantic, how the crew dealt with cramped quarters, days shrouded in fog and wind that ranged from flat calms to strong gales. You will also hear about the wildlife encountered throughout the voyage as well as the ships they crossed paths with. The discussion will include many photographs of the voyage.

[As always, a Toonie donation to ABYC's Junior Sailing Program will be appreciated]

SEA WALL REPAIR COMMITTEE
REVIEW OF PROGRESS/NEXT STEPS

We have had one fall season of project progress using a new system of wall repair.  We would like to include all opinions from all participants in this project in order to plan for future implementation of the next area of repair which must be larger and must be completed more efficiently.

Any interested participants are welcome to attend a project review meeting on

Wednesday March 11 at 7:pm.

If you cannot attend and have suggestions for improvement please email me at penro@sympatico.ca ahead of time.

We probably all agree that the month of February has been very difficult.  The extreme cold has caused a lot of ice to form on the bay and as a result, our docks are subject to the vagaries of this ice.  The biggest problem is ice collecting around the pipes that hold up the docks.  Once ice attaches itself to the pipe, the constantly changing water level causes the ice surface to lift, taking the pipe and dock with it.  To prevent this, the bubbler system forces warmer water to the surface around the pipes thereby preventing ice from forming.  However the system must be monitored constantly and when ice does manage to form around the pipes, our bubbler crew and staff must chip the ice away from the pipes.  It is cold work but very necessary to prevent damage so that all our members with boats can have a dock to return to next spring.
