Yes, it's very cold outside,
but maintenance work continues!
_____________________________________________________________________________________

It doesn't matter that the outside temperature is -15C, our hardy crews continue to do the very necessary maintenance work that keeps our club operating.  They could use more help but nevertheless, they continue with skeleton crews.

In these photos, the Gazebo gets new decking while in the lower photo, the bubbler system that keeps ice away from our fixed docks receives an urgent patching so that our docks can survive the ice that has built up in the bay.  Without this repair, the docks will be severely damaged.

Other work continues in various areas of the club so that all our members can enjoy our facilities next summer.

Bravo to our Saturday workers!

On February 7th, the Junior and Senior race teams participated in a Blue Mountain ski day.  Many racers and their families drove up to Blue Mountain for a fun day of skiing and snowboarding.  More than ten sailors hit the slopes, showing off some of their impressive skills on snow rather than water.  After almost seven hours of skiing and snowboarding the group met up for snacks and a Just Dance battle.

Even though ski day was a raging success the race team is looking forward to getting back on the water this spring!  Another quick reminder that 2015 ABYC registration is open for all classes.  Also remember that there is an extra week this summer and we are featuring a one week bonus course in that space.

Last week many members and friends came out on a blistering cold evening to enjoy the talk by author Jane Fairburn.  Her Book "Along the Shore" outlines the history of our North Shore from the Rouge River to the Humber River with many wonderful photos and illustrations.  Jane sold approximately 40 of her books that evening at the discounted rate of $30.00 (including tax).  Please contact me if you are interested in having your own copy and we'll get in touch with the Author.

The evening raised $100 for the new Opti Coach Boat where we are directing our funds to this year.

Thank you to David Gilbert suggesting Jane Fairburn as a speaker and who did a wonderful job introducing her on Thursday evening.

All in all a fabulous evening.

Our next presentation is March 12 with ABYC's very own member and S2S Editor...Bernie Caron

Franklin found?

No this is not the lost Franklin expedition, it is part of a Saturday work party.  The "Bubbler Team" needed to work on water and so used a dinghy to do the work.

"Ah, for just one time I would take the Northwest Passage
To find the hand of Franklin reaching for the Beaufort Sea;
Tracing one warm line through a land so wide and savage
And make a Northwest Passage to the sea."

Enough Winter?
We'll be back to this sooner than you think!
