Contribution & Special Awards

Each year, ABYC recognizes some of its most significant volunteer and special contributions.  While our season isn't over yet, it is not too early to start thinking about people who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.

ABYC Contribution Awards:

Commodore's Award
Presented by the Commodore for best representing ABYC in any branch of yachting, inside or outside the Club.

Alice Patterson Memorial Trophy
To be awarded in recognition of services to boat racing.

Cradle Crew Award
To be awarded for meritorious service by a member of the cradle crew at launch and haulout.

Don Davis Trophy

This trophy is presented annually to the member who makes the greatest contribution to developing a lifelong love of sailing in young sailors, whether through keelboat or dinghy racing or cruising.

ABYC Special Awards:

Keen Crew Award
Awarded to the person, who has demonstrated, as crew, outstanding dedication or performance.

Michael Stuart Trophy
For the most outstanding act of sportsmanship.

Please take a moment and think about those members who've done something special at our club this year.
All nominations must be in writing, and should be sent to rearcom@abyc.on.ca

Some of our awards are decided by specific members of the board or committees, but all nominations are welcome, and will be forwarded  to those making the decision.

Crane Haulout - Deadlines & Yard Space
- Anthony Mirvish, Crane Committee Chair
______________________________________________________________________

The cut-off for new boats coming into the fleet and wishing to haul and store by crane is September 8.  Boats brought into the fleet after that date will not be considered for haulout and storage at the club this fall.  Due to constraints on the yard's layout resulting from the sea wall repairs, boats brought into the fleet before the deadline may or may not be able to haul/store at the club.  Cases will be decided on an individual basis in which the size and draft of the boat will be the determining factors.  Large boats (over 35') in particular will be affected.  A number of owners who have already inquired about their boats have been told that they will have to store off-site this year.

I am hoping to have the yard layout drawing posted by the middle of the month (approximately September 20).  Due to the number of changes in the yard layout, all owners are requested to review the drawing and note their storage location as it may be very different from last year.  The drawing will be posted in the club's lobby.

The last few editions of Ship2Shore contained articles outlining the role of several Board positions that are due for renewal this year.  If you are interested in one of these positions and have questions or just want to chat about the roles...

Gus Gillespie will talk to you about the role of Vice Commodore Marine

Cindy Sampson will talk to you about the role of Vice Commodore Finance

Petra Fischer will talk to you about the role of Rear Commodore

I walked around the Club grounds on the weekend and had a big smile on my face!  I was thanked by numerous members for the work that has been done, my response was that it was many, many members who are to be thanked!

So if you see one of those garden gnomes working hard at watering or weeding, PLEASE say your thanks to them, it truly is a joint effort by many who care.

The BBQ patios look amazing and Kathleen you should be really proud of red dock, what a transformation!

There is still lots of work to be done before the 'w' word arrives (winter), and at the work parties we will need your help getting everything ready to protect our investments.

So again, please pull that weed if indeed you know it is, (the grasses in the planters by the gates were not weeds!), or add some water wherever possible, again, we cannot over water these grounds...

Thanks go out to so many members.
