Bad Weather?  What Bad Weather?  Last Saturday's snow storm didn't deter Stephen Trevitt's crew as they worked rebuilding the hard wall in the Dry Sail area.  Maximum effort is required to get this done before spring and offers of help are always appreciated.

This Friday will be the last day to enjoy our beautiful Christmas tree so please call ahead and reserve for Friday dinner and enjoy some holiday cheer with fellow club members.

I learned Monday night during our monthly board meeting that there will be a work party for the sea walls as well as other areas of our property this Saturday morning.  This, in effect is the last activity before the club closes until January 1, 2014.  Also, the front entrance construction team is battling the weather with hope that Santa will provide the break needed to complete the project before the New Year.

Have a Merry Christmas, enjoy the holiday season and may the winds be fair in 2014!

Bob

ABYC will be closed from
NOON on Monday, December 23 to Tuesday, December 31

The club will reopen on January 1, 2014 for the New Year's Levee.

Financial Reminders

______________________________________________

This is a friendly reminder that starting January 1, 2014, our new credit policy will be implemented as recommended by our external auditors.  The credit policy is based on common commercial terms:  Net 30/2%.  This means that payment must be received within 30 days of the statement issue date; otherwise a 2% interest rate will be applied on outstanding amounts every month.

In addition, we would like to remind everybody that starting in January 2014, Minimum Billing will be applied 3 times per year, instead of 4 times per year.  The first cycle for Minimum Billing will be charged on December 30, 2013 at the equivalent rate for 2013 ($140).  The next two cycles will take place May 1 and September 1, 2014.  The actual amount of the latter two minimum billings will be determined and finalized during the recommendation presented to the membership at the General Meeting in January, 2014.

No Ship2Shore delivery December 25, 2013
There will be no Ship2Shore delivered on December 25, 2013.  There is very little activity at this time of year and consequently, we have little if anything to report.  We will return on January 1, 2014.

We wish all our readers a Merry Christmas!

Delivery time change for Ship2Shore
There will be a change to the time Ship2Shore is released starting with the January 1, 2014 edition.  Due to technical reasons, we are moving the release time ahead to early Wednesday morning.  There will be no changes to the layout or content.

There is no change to the NOON, Tuesday deadline for submission of articles.

You don't want to miss 2013's last work party!

Yes Virginia, there is one last work party (people of a certain age will get this reference), and it is this coming Saturday December 20th.
Jobs include:
-  hauling out the Irish
-  dismantling the school docks and removing the barrel floats
-  relocate the steel that was delivered before it freezes to the ground
-  help Stephen Trevitt with his merry, rollicking, pile-driving band of wall repair-ers

Come on out and lend a hand (you will be in Santa's good books, and frankly, this time of year is no time to take chances with the good books!).

This is the last work party for 2013.  Merry Christmas to all and see you at the Levee.

Els van Dam
__________________________

Long time members of ABYC will be saddened to learn of the passing of former Senior Member Els van Dam (wife of Otto van Dam) on June 2nd. of this year. Since their move to British Columbia many years ago, Els and Otto have been honourary members of ABYC.  This is due to their extraordinary contributions to ABYC.  Els is remembered especially for the beautiful large hand woven wall hanging created by her which graced the wall of our clubhouse for many years.

Since taking up residence in Mill Bay, BC, Els became a member of the local weavers' guild "Tzouhalem Spinners & Weavers Guild".  After her passing, the following was written in the guild's newsletter:

"I bring you your summer newsletter with a sad heart.  Our good Els has passed.  A powerhouse of energy, inspiration, love and knowledge, she is and will be so, somissed.  She took the diagnosis of her brain cancer in her stride as she did everhthing in her life - with pragmatism, creativity and determination.  Way to go Els!  We'll keep you always in our hearts!"

Just like the members of her weavers guild, members of ABYC who knew Els will always fondly remember her spirit and drive.

The early freezing of our bay had members scrambling to get equipment out of the ice last Saturday.  Fortunately, even though it was cold and stormy, enough members turned out to help and most of our equipment was pulled out of the ice.
