____________________________________________

Sent on behalf of the Deputy Harbour Master:

Monday night's thunderstorm and consequent flooding of the Don Roadway resulted in a large amount of floating debris being washed out into the harbour.  The Harbour Hotline of the Toronto Port Authority began early this morning to immediately tackle this large amount of debris, which will take several days to clean up.

Mariners are advised to exercise caution and reduce speed especially after dark while in the waters of the Port of Toronto.

A Notice to Mariners in this regard was sent early this morning and NOTSHIP C1297/13 was issued on July 9, 2013 at 0830 hours.

Michael Riehl

Deputy Harbour Master

& Manager of Customer Relations

Toronto Port Authority

Note: A large amount of debris will probably be in the water outside the harbour as well.  Caution is advised.

All roads (?) lead to ABYC

There are many ways to get to ABYC, including driving.  Some people do take the driving thing a bit far at times though.  This vehicle was spotted in our bay last week slowly navigating the perimeter of the bay.  We don't know if they were looking for a dock or parking space :)

Wendy Loat's Race Report
______________________________________________________

Last weekend PCYC hosted their LORC REGATTA.  Before I write about the racing, I must commend PCYC for a couple of things.  The dinner was the best regatta meal I 've had in recent memory, with an abundance of delicious salads, baked beans, corn on the cob and the roasted pigs.  It was also a treat to get our dock assignment via email on Thursday so we knew where to put the boat when we arrived in the pouring rain Friday. We could also let the crew know where to find the boat on Saturday morning.  Now if only they did a better job of organizing the weather for the boat delivery...

Several boats from ABYC competed and once again the ABYC burgee flew high at the awards ceremony.  In IRC 2, the Crime Scene crew skippered by Stephen Trevitt finished in a strong second place while Murray Gainer and his Lively crew placed fifth in the 12 boat fleet.  Once again Winston Beckett and his team sailed to Fortitude to victory in IRC 3.  Special congratulations to the Flynn brothers and crew of Starwatch who had their best weekend in Starwatch by finishing third behind a boat that should be racing in IRC 2 but apparently switched divisions because she couldn't beat Crime Scene.  Well, join the club!  Fifth in IRC 3 (or first in IRC 3.5) was Looney Tunes.  Also competing in IRC was Larry Harrison and the Merlin M2 crew.

Mike Hren crewed aboard Rain (appropriately named for this summer,  don't you think?) which finished first in the Etchells class and Richard Weld was fifth aboard Kent Paisley 's Proudest Monkey

Congratulations are also due to Martin Gibbs who raced Comfort for the first time ever and finished second in the whitesail division.  Well done!

ABYC was also represented in the J24 fleet by a couple of crew (Briar Robertson and Derek ) on Journey (fifth place ) and Ryan Wynott on the 8metre Norseman.

In the J24 fleet,  ABYC was represented by Eriks Kalvins and the crew of Black Pearl as well as Eli Gershman and his Black Swan team.

Full LORC results can be seen at:  PCYC  Open Regatta

Our Junior team was at Sailfest in Sarnia but at the time of writing (in the dark without power),  BTW, no results were posted on the website.

Up next is the LO 300.  Follow along at www.lo300.org.

HELP WANTED
CREW-BANK COORDINATOR

We are looking for someone to take over the duties of the Crew-Bank Coordinator for race nights on Tuesday evenings. The primary duty here is to be available at the club on Tuesday evenings from approx. 5:30 to 6:00 P.M. in order to help place sailors looking to crew on club boats for the Tuesday night races.

We have six Tuesday night races left for the sailing season, and the club may run a 4 evening Fall Series depending on demand.

Familiarity with the skippers racing in the JaM, Spinnaker, J24 and Thunderbird fleets is helpful, but not essential.

If you are presently racing on Tuesday nights and looking to complement your crew, this is a job for you.

Please contact Paul McDonald, pmcdonald@hoganchev.com, or cell-phone 416-816-0578

Also, as a notice to all the club racers competing on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, please remember to make yourself known to the Crew Bank Coordinators (who will be in the club's lounge) that you can take on additional crew - and help our newer members to ABYC integrate into the club.

Tuesday evenings - contact Murray Gainer (until further notice)

Thursday evenings - contact Rebecca Crumlish

Strong Turnout for

Wednesday Night Laser Racing

- Kevin Armstrong

_________________________________________________________________

Wednesday July 3rd marked the strongest turnout this year as 12 boats lined up for the start of two races that evening.  The winds were light and the race committee led by Pasquale Leone got the course length just right making for very competitive racing.  The first race was won by one of the younger competitors, Michael Hogbin while the second was won by one of the master level sailors, Jeff Dejean (for those of you not familiar with Laser sailing sailors over the age of 35 are designated Masters).

Since the beginning of June, 11 races have been completed over 5 nights.  Fifteen different competitors have showed up to race at least one race in the series and over the next few weeks we anticipate adding to the ranks as more junior sailors and some veterans make there way out to the race course for the first time this year.  We are a super friendly bunch (haven't had a protest hearing in ten years) so if you are interested in finding out more about the racing program drop by the dinghy area on a Wednesday night and say hello.

Special thanks go out to the race committee who have done an outstanding job each and every night.  Pasquale Leone is the PRO most nights, regular attendees include Martin Doyle, Eli Gershman and Steve Ord.  Their willingness to come out and help is greatly appreciated.

Top three finishers July 3rd.
