A nice crowd of around 80 people attended last weekend's first cruise of the year - the South Wall Cruise.  In addition to enjoying great company, everyone also enjoyed the annual Chili cook-off.

Open house a great success!!

    Adult Keelboat program Co-chairs
___________________________________________________________________

This year's ABYC open house drew the usual steady stream of visitors anxious lo learn about the club's learn-to-sail programs.  Fifteen new Introductory Associate members joined the club at the open house as part of their registration in the Adult Keelboat program.  This brought the total registration and new members to 37, well on our way to beat last year's record registration of 45 students.

Many thanks to the Membership Committee, the Junior Sailing School, Dinghy School and the Keelboat Co-op program for their participation.

South Wall Cruise (Chili Wrap (Up)
- from Cam Hind
____________________________________________________________

Many thanks to all who made the long journey to the South Wall last Saturday for the annual chili cook off.  We had an excellent turn out (80 people and 14 boats - sorry Howard we couldn't include "Petit Beaucoup" in the total).  We did break the record for most dogs in attendance!

Congrats to our new reigning champion - Mary Pappas - who walked away with the chili crown and all the riches and bragging rights that accompany it.  Many thanks to all who helped make the day a wonderful kick off to our cruising season.  Looking forward to doing it all again next year!

George Coyles Tuneup Race Rescheduled

_________________________________________________________

The weather was a bit much for a tune up race on the 11th, so a decision was made to spend the afternoon with Mothers instead of with breaking gear and tearing sails.

This race has been rescheduled to Saturday, May 18th.

NOTE changed times to allow people to join club cruise after the race:
0900h Skipper's Meeting (SI 2.2)
1000h Warning Signal (SI 2.2)
1400h Time Limit (SI 6.1)

RC Flag Race Committee for ABYC's Regatta
- from Dave Steenbergen
______________________________________________________________

Calum Semple and I are still looking for Race Committee volunteers for the ABYC Regatta May 25-26.

In addition to the IRC course, ABYC is running a course for Martin 16s, and we have been asked for help with personnel by another club which is running a course for us.

We are looking for one experienced mark layer, one or two anchor pullers for mark boats, and a couple of assistants for various committee boats.  The anchor puller jobs are great learning opportunities for less experienced mark layers (or newbies to the profession) since you would be working for a top person from another club.  The assistant jobs do not require any race committee experience and would be a good way to find out what's involved in running races.

If you can help please contact Calum Semple, ABYC Race Committee Coordinator, at calum@hjfi.com and/or Dave Steenbergen, ABYC Regatta PRO, at dave.steenbergen@rogers.com
