 Sarah Ashbridge gets fresh look
- from Rear Commodore Paul Brennan
________________________________________________________
Well, some might have thought that Sarah Ashbridge had joined the Royal Canadian Navy when they saw the boat up in the railway and the fresh coat of grey. However, that was only primer and will be returning to blue with the next coats.
The idea was interesting though. As a naval vessel, we could mount guns on her ... instead of worrying about pesky flags and hailing for OCS, we could just fire a medium size shell down the line for the start, and anyone over early would get immediate, unignorable feedback. Probably never need the black flag again! :)
Thanks to Mitchell Kitz for organizing the painting crew (to be thanked when they're done!) and to Bruce, Peter, Johnny, Dave, and Rennie for helping with the railway haulout.

ABYC South Wall Chili Cookoff
From 14:00 - 16:00 on Saturday May 11th , bring your boats (masts optional), load the chili and put your taste buds to the test. Witness the crowning of this year's chili champion by our panel of "seasoned" judges.
This event will be rain or shine - although at the moment we are looking good for sunshine! If the rain comes, check the bulletin board in the front lobby for Plan B details....
Just a reminder, this is a BYO beverage event. Please eat and drink responsibly.
See you on the South Wall.

Move your dinghies
- from Grant Dietrich, Dinghy Fleet Captain
_____________________________________________
Spring is here and the grass is starting to grow at Bay Belle Point. All of the dinghies need to be moved to the dinghy area. Please move your own and a couple of others.
I will be coming out some nights this week after work to move some and could use help. Also mark all equipment with name and member number for identification. Boats unable to be identified may be repurposed. (The gardening crews are looking for new planters).

Mooring Tire Adjustments (Reminder) _________________________________________________________________ The Mooring Tire Adjustment Forms are on a clipboard at the bottom of the stairs inside the clubhouse, notices have also been posted around the clubhouse. If you need your mooring adjusted please add your boat name and slip number to the form and how you would like the tires moved. Please note that we will have two volunteers who will help by boarding vessels to tie off stern lines, we recommend that owners come down and re check that their vessels are tied off to their liking. Special call out to New Members; if you are new to ABYC and have not had the 'pleasure' of dealing with stern mooring tires before and are not sure, please ask your mentor or one of your neighbours and add your name to the list. VC Marine Correction
- from Bob Hedley, VC Marine Services
___________________________________________
Well, I can vouch that S2S is read by many members. Even before I had received my copy of last week's S2S article about what it takes to execute a safe launch a couple of members pointed out to me that I had incorrectly said that Alison Booze coordinates the Tallow crew.
My apology for the oversight. Nancy Wilson has coordinated the tallow crew since Elizabeth Kimball was unable to do it. Sorry, Nancy and thank you for leading a team that ensures our railway cross hauling is just slippery enough to make it easy to move boats along the cross haul safely.

 Mast Up Task Team
_________________________________________
We executed successful lifts at launch of two boats with their masts in place. From this exercise, several observations were made, useful to our discussions. The next step for the Committee will be to formulate a report to the ABYC Board this summer.
However, this trial sparked some enquiries:
First, from those wanting to lift their boats this fall with masts in place. Our intent is, subject to Board approval, to continue the trial with a limited number of boats at haul out. This will be subject to space and logistical constraints. Interested owners will be asked to submit their requests to be included sometime in August. At this stage no commitments can be made nor is the additional cost per boat known.
Secondly, the survey results showed that there is interest in the service. Specifically, twenty boats from those currently lifted via crane indicated yes and ten from the marine railway. A further six currently stored elsewhere indicated an interest in returning to ABYC storage if the service existed. This totals 36, or roughly 15% of our total fleet.

Dr. David Parkinson

| David's Toronto family is holding a memorial for him on Wednesday, May 15 at 4:00PM. The memorial will be held at Massey College, University of Toronto, 4 Devonshire Place. The location is one block west of Queen's park Circle - just North of Hoskin Avenue. David's family would welcome all who enjoyed his company. The following obituary was in the Toronto Star on March 9, 2013.
PARKINSON, Dr. David - December 12, 1937 - February 16, 2013 On Saturday, February 16, 2013, David passed away on Long Island, New York after a long illness. He will be sadly missed by his wife Terry, his loving children Kate, Eliza and George and his eight grandchildren Emma, Charlotte, Madeline, Jonah, Norah, Yolanda, David and Courtenay. Inspired by the abysmal working conditions of mill workers in his native Lancashire, David became a crusader in the field of environmental and occupational health and safety. In Toronto, he will be long remembered for his work in the 1970's at the Hospital for Sick Children and the Toronto Board of Health; the culmination of which was the Niagara Street Toronto Refiners and Smelting Company lead contamination case. A memorial will be held at Massey College, May 15th from 4 - 7 p.m.

Just for Fun!
_____________________________ Sometimes we do something just for the fun of doing it. This is what happened last Saturday over ABYC. Senior Member Helmut Ott (Feisty Lady) has a grandson (Hesham Elnahass) who flies a small airplane. On this particular day around 5:55p.m., Hesham sent Helmut a text message that he was approaching ABYC in a small airplane so Helmut pulled out his camera and took a photograph of his grandson's airplane overhead - see small dot in yellow circle. At the same time, Hesham also had his camera out and took the beautiful picture below.
