 Commodore's Comments
- from Commodore Rick Humphrey
___________________________________________________________
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that made last Saturday's All-Day Workparty a success. We had a great number of members present and lots of jobs accomplished. Thanks are extended to all those who organized the job lists, personnel, and supplies. As we approach Launch, we owe much to those who have volunteered throughout the winter as well. Whether you were on a Committee, organized an event, attended winter Workparties, all your work is much appreciated. Please take the opportunity to visit our Website and record your hours in the Job Jar available there. It is user-friendly and there are members who are willing to help if you need it.
As a follow-up to the mailing that was sent to all Senior and Life Members, I wish to encourage you to attend the April General Meeting to take place Monday, April 22 at 7 pm. You will receive updates of the many projects that our Board Members and their involved Committees and also see presentations regarding the Long-Range Plan and our audited financial statement. The April General Meeting tends to be celebratory in nature as we honour our 10-year and 25-year pin recipients, our two 50-year members, and review the recommendation for a new Life Member.
I am hoping to see you on the 22nd. Please plan to attend. It is your Club and you deserve to see and hear about our many accomplishments.
Respectfully submitted, Rick Humphrey, Commodore commodore@abyc.on.ca |

We had a great turnout for last week's all day work party - over 100 people came out to contribute to the maintenance and up-keep of our club. The yards were cleaned, Muskoka chairs sanded and painted, windows washed inside and out, railing painted, docks repaired, work rafts completed, and the best of all...Stephen Trevitt and team finished the pile driving and tie-backs! Yes! Hats off to the team - that was a lot of work over many weeks. Thanks to the many, many volunteers who came out for the day. And to top it off a delicious buffet lunch was provided by chef Paul. This Saturday we need to clean up the blue wall area - filling in the holes and putting the decking back in place. There is also some work to do around the mast crane area. Just a few more Saturdays to get this done before launch.

Friday April 19, 2013
_______________________________________________________
Be sure to mark Friday, April 19 on your calendars, the annual ABYC New Members' Night at the Club. All members are encouraged to attend this important event to welcome new members to the Club.
It is an opportunity for members who have joined over the past year to meet as many, more established members of the Club as possible, in a fun and relaxed manner. As usual, we will give each new member a number of drink tickets. A member of longer standing can get a ticket from the new member but they must earn it by engaging the new member in a rewarding conversation.
Please join us at 7 pm for the festivities.

 Install your mooring lines
- from Alison Booz, Dock ladies Coordinator
______________________________________________________
All members are reminded to install your mooring lines before Saturday, April 27 Launch. Please install your dock lines and tire lines. The Club has two aluminum outboards that you can borrow to help you install your mooring lines on your tires. As well, remember to install copper keepers on all your mooring lines so they don't work loose during the season.
Having your dock and tire lines installed before Launch will help the Dock Ladies help you tie up your boat quickly and safely. Thank you for helping make our job easier!

 Crane Launch
- from Anthony Mirvish, Crane Committee Chair
________________________________________________________
This year's launch for the crane boats will take place on Saturday, April 27 starting at 8 AM for both cranes. Launch will be completed in one day and will include the boats on the hydraulic trailers. Unlike some other years, there will be no launch activities on Friday. Prior to launch, I will be completing a full survey of all crane boats with respect to cradles, sling marks, keel marking and cradle markings, and boat measurement. Each of these activities is important for the efficient operation of the crane operation, especially for the haulout in the fall. The keel and cradle marking will take place a few days prior to launch. Please do not paint over any of the keel marks unless your boat has multiple marks on her keel and you want to clarify which mark is correct. These marks are important for placing the boats in their cradles in the fall. Likewise, the small CL marks on the cradles should not be painted over. These marks are used when we place the cradles in the fall and they are extremely important to ensuring a correct yard layout. Your cooperation in this matter appreciated. The cradle and sling mark checks are being instituted because we still have too many boats that lack fully compliant cradles and sling marks. Improper sling marks place your boat at risk when we lift it in the fall and can greatly lengthen the amount of time required to place the boat in the cradle. We all pay for this in terms of increased crane time. Please take advantage of your boat being out of the water to mark/adjust sling lifting marks so that the slings will clear the cradle pads and through hulls (it is recognized that in some cases, the cradle pads cannot be completely avoided). I am happy to help anyone who has questions about the best lifting points. The cradle compliance review will look at the general framing of the cradle and the number of pads. Your cooperation is appreciated in this matter. Anyone who does not want their cradle stored should contact Jeff Dejean or me. Otherwise, you can expect your cradle to be folded and stored as soon as possible after your boat has been launched. Please watch this space for additional announcements during the weeks prior to launch.

Looking forward to Launch!
