 The BIG DAY!
- from Sue Hamilton, Work Party Co-ordinator

______________________________________________________

It's almost here, the day everyone is waiting for...the all day work party, woohoo!  There are still lots of jobs to sign up for so don't feel that it's too late to sign up, just send an email to abycworkparty@hotmail.com.  I have also been trying very, very hard to line up some good weather. However, whenever I go to the Weather Network site, Saturday is still showing cloudy with maybe some rain (gasp).  I have called them many times to have this changed.  And there is still plenty of time for that to change, but if in fact we do get some rain, the painting and varnishing projects may move to Saturday April 13th.  But let's not get ahead of ourselves and become despondent - there is a very good chance that sunshine will abound (you know how weather predictions can be).

See you all Saturday morning!

LORC Racing Survey
_____________________________________________________

The Lake Ontario Racing Counsel (LORC) is an organization of fifteen Yacht Clubs located in the western end of Lake Ontario.  The Council promotes competitive keelboat sailing in the Greater Toronto Area by organizing inter-club yacht racing for member clubs.

We realize that sailboat racing is changing across Lake Ontario and we want to reflect your interests.

So LORC is asking all racing sailors (skippers and crew) to complete a survey, so that we can promote the type of racing events that interest you!

Please complete one of the 2 surveys, one for LORC participants and the other for non LORC racers (current racers, past racers, interested racers).

To learn more about the LORC go to

http://www.lorc.org/

Thank you for your time

Please feel free to pass this notice on to anyone you think is interested.

Last week-end, the ABYC Junior Race Team-Championship Fleet started to get prepped for the upcoming sailing season with some dry-land fitness training.  They were led by former team coach, Ira Carson, who created a comprehensive fitness plan that includes regular exercises to help the team prepare for the upcoming season.  The Junior Race Team is planning a fantastic 2013 sailing season that will be getting underway on May 5, with the beginning of spring training.  For more information about the ABYC Junior Race Team, please like us on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/ABYCJuniorRaceTeam.

______________________________________________________________

Just an update in case you have been unable to follow Diane's website she is now in her final stages of qualifying and we all wish her success.  I have been asked by several people to post the information regarding the trip to France to send her on her way for the big race and at the same time enjoy a nice vacation.  The following is the necessary information from Diane's website to join her for the start of the big race:

Wow have we got an exciting opportunity for you!  Marathon Sports Travel has organized a fantastic trip for you to come to the start line of the 10 2013 Mini Transat race!  10 fun filled exciting days in France, culminating with you on the start line in a spectator boat, while 90 minis tear off across the ocean to Guadeloupe!  Marathon has it all organized...from the flight out of Toronto to landing in Paris for a few days and then a trip to the coast to Douarnenez for the start.

2013 Launch Information
Crane
Crane Launch

- from Anthony Mirvish, Crane Committee Chair

________________________________________________________

This year's launch for the crane boats will take place on Saturday, April 27 starting at 8 AM for both cranes.  Launch will be completed in one day and will include the boats on the hydraulic trailers.  Unlike some other years, there will be no launch activities on Friday.

Prior to launch, I will be completing a full survey of all crane boats with respect to cradles, sling marks, keel marking and cradle markings, and boat measurement.   Each of these activities is important for the efficient operation of the crane operation, especially for the haulout in the fall.

The keel and cradle marking will take place a few days prior to launch.  Please do not paint over any of the keel marks unless your boat has multiple marks on her keel and you want to clarify which mark is correct.  These marks are important for placing the boats in their cradles in the fall.  Likewise, the small CL marks on the cradles should not be painted over.  These marks are used when we place the cradles in the fall and they are extremely important to ensuring a correct yard layout.  Your cooperation in this matter appreciated.

The cradle and sling mark checks are being instituted because we still have too many boats that lack fully compliant cradles and sling marks.   Improper sling marks place your boat at risk when we lift it in the fall and can greatly lengthen the amount of time required to place the boat in the cradle.  We all pay for this in terms of increased crane time.  Please take advantage of your boat being out of the water to mark/adjust sling lifting marks so that the slings will clear the cradle pads and through hulls (it is recognized that in some cases, the cradle pads cannot be completely avoided).  I am happy to help anyone who has questions about the best lifting points.  The cradle compliance review will look at the general framing of the cradle and the number of pads.  Your cooperation is appreciated in this matter.

Anyone who does not want their cradle stored should contact Jeff Dejean or me.  Otherwise, you can expect your cradle to be folded and stored as soon as possible after your boat has been launched.

Please watch this space for additional announcements during the weeks prior to launch.

Looking forward to Launch!
