Fine Dining
Thursday, December 20

Due to the club closing at NOON on Friday, December 21, Fine Dining will be available Thursday evening this week.

Chef Paul promises a very special meal so come on down - This is your last chance to be with your friends at ABYC this year.

It's time to pick up your racing flags
- from Rear Commodore Paul Brennan
__________________________________________________________________

Those of you who didn't pick up flags at our Racing Awards night can pick them up from the club anytime the office is open (this week until Friday, at the Levee, or starting again in January on weekdays and during work parties).  The office is also usually open in the evenings when the club is open.

You've earned them -- pick them up and decorate the house with them, or, if you're handy, sew them into a quilt, or even a heavy-air chute!

(We're getting as bad as the army for TLAs)

#1. If you are intending to downgrade or resign your ABYC membership, you must advise the Senior Vice Commodore in writing before midnight, December 31st.

#2. You must complete your membership contribution requirement by the end of the year.  The MCC is breathing life into a new online system to make this process more transparent for 2013 but it is entirely your responsibility to find the hours needed.  There will be bills.

Update from Member Contribution Committee

- From Jamie Donaldson

____________________________________________________________________________________

Hi everyone! A brief report before we head for sunny climes over Christmas week.

We have compiled the hours reported on blue cards through Dec 15. I have posted the list (updated through Dec 8) in the signal room, listed by member name. The total hours reported through Dec 15 has been sent to Lidia and to Pat Flynn. Please submit any additional hours in time so I can make a final report to the Board early in the New Year.

From the Committee, and from the crew of fleur du lac - a very happy holiday season! See you in 2013!

Whisky Tasting January 19, 2013
- from Jim Allen
________________________________________________________________________________

As part of the Celtic Night Celebrations, we will again be featuring a Single Malt Whisky Tasting beginning at 6:00 PM.  Once again we will feature 5 unique Whiskies selected by Rennie and Jim.  The price will remain at $30 per person the same as last year.  We hope to see a good turnout of all the ABYC Single Malt Whisky lovers.

Cruising Awards Night
- from Don Sturgeon & Debbie Dockray, Cruising Captains
_____________________________________________________________

The Cruising Awards Night has been scheduled for the evening of Friday, January 25th.   Come on out for our annual mid-winter "Shore Cruise" where we can get together with our cruising friends over dinner for some laughs and celebrate the 2012 cruising season.  Mark the date on your calendar!

The awards presentation will begin around 8:00 so you don't need to come for dinner but if you are having dinner beforehand please do let the club staff know
ABYC Race Video
___________________________________________

Now that the cold weather is moving in and sailing locally is over, we thought we would treat ABYC racers with a video taken during the Vertigon/Whiplash Challenge Race held on September 15, 2012.

The video was taken by Dawn Carey (Whiplash) and will be especially appreciated by the crews of Plum Danish and Excalibur.

Have a look and enjoy.  Unfortunately YouTube inserted an annoying commercial Ad at the beginning but just click on "Skip Ad" and it will be gone.  Make sure you watch in "Full Screen" mode.

ANNUAL CASA BALLMAN PARTY
&
GIVE YOUR BOAT A HUG DAY

Saturday, December 29, 2012  11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

With the Festive Season upon us there are many reasons to be focused on other events and not pay any attention to our boats until spring.  They do need some tender loving care so come on down to the Club on Saturday, December 29, 2012, check out how you boat is weathering the early winter and join us in Casa Ballman for hot soup, nibblies and refreshments.  Contributions of left over Christmas edibles are always appreciated.

While the Club House is closed this day, the Casa Ballman furnace is fired up and provides all the warmth that is needed.

Winter Lecture Series
- from Jim Allen

February 7th - Craig Stewart and Morton Biback from the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron will be presenting a 3 hour Weather Seminar - This lecture will begin at 7:00 PM due to its length.
