The all-day work party doesn't only involve hammers, shovels and crowbars.  In addition to those tools, garden shears and tree pruners were a common sight last weekend as were trophy polish and window cleaner.  A great deal of work was done to prepare ABYC for the upcoming winter season.

02  Sunday - Children's Christmas Party

The events along the American East Coast resulting from Hurricane Sandy remind us how accidental life can be.  Keeping our thoughts closer to home the group playing at ABYC Thursday night, the DEMD, have organized a food drive for delivery to the Daily Bread Food Bank.  All contributions of canned or dry foods will be warmly received by the Band.

We accomplished a lot!
- from Sue Hamilton, Work Party Co-ordinator
______________________________________________________

We had a great turnout for last week's all day work party.  About 85 - 90 people came out to work in the sunshine around the yard, Casa Ballman and on the docks.  We had quite a crew polishing trophies and cleaning the trophy cases, cleaning the club house, the children's room and cleaning the windows, inside and out.  We had a fantastic buffet lunch put together by Chef Paul and team.  Thank you to all who participated - we accomplished a lot!

This weekend we have a few more jobs to be done:

Mike Leroux continues to work with his team on the blue wall decking, and there are some places on green and red docks where decking needs to be removed.

Joe Simpson needs a few people to help out with the barge (put on the boom) and  chain replacement is also starting up.  He would also like to have a few people for Saturday and Sunday afternoon to help recover blocks in the harbour.

Also, everyone should note that the yard water will be turned off this Saturday for the winter.  Ron Partch and team will be working on this.

Stern Lines to be removed
- from Paul Lefneski, Harbourmaster
__________________________________________________________________

If you have not already removed your tire lines you should do so as soon as possible.  The chain replacement project has begun and if your lines are still attached to the tires they will be removed and put into a barrel with all of the others.  The harbour team will not be responsible for lost lines.

There is still a harbour boat in the water that can be used to access the tires but don't wait until Saturday morning because there is only one boat and it may be in use by the work team.

A.B.Y.C.'s Annual
Children's Christmas Party

  Sunday, December 2nd - Be there! - 11:30 a.m.

The time is fast approaching when Santa Claus will make his annual trek from the North Pole to visit the Children of ABYC.  In truth, I don't know who is more excited to see Santa arrive by boat, the Children or the Grandparents.

Please join us on Sunday December 2nd.  Festivities will commence at 11:30.  These will include lunch at 12:00 pm, entertainment at 12:30 pm followed by caroling at 1:00 pm to welcome Santa's arrival.

Please provide a wrapped gift with each child's name and age for Santa's delivery. This is to be given to Santa's helper upon arrival.  If you wish to donate to the Children's Christmas fund, please provide an unwrapped gift or toy.  These are to be placed under the Christmas tree.  A sign up sheet will be placed on the bulletin board.

Ship To Shore missing again
__________________________________________________________

Once again, Ship To Shore has been filtered out by an email service - this time Microsoft's "Hotmail".  If you receive your Ship To Shore via Hotmail, you probably didn't receive last week's edition.  We had at least 68 recipients who did not receive their copy.

We can't offer any advice as to how to avoid this problem.  The last time it happened, it involved Sympatico and we recommended that recipients use a Hotmail account to avoid this.  This proved to be  bad advice.  We're open to suggestions.

Ship To Shore goes out at NOON each Wednesday.  If you have not received your copy by mid-afternoon on Wednesday, chances are that you will not receive it.  You can notify us and we will email a copy to you.  Or you can simply go to one of the following sites and view it by following the links:

ABYC Website:  Go to www.abyc.on.ca  and go to the [Members' area], [Ship To Shore Archives].

S2S Editors' Facebook Page:  S2S Editors' Facebook page.   Each week, a link to Ship To Shore is posted on our Facebook page (there is no need to join Facebook to view S2S).

Blue Dock Decking
_______________________________________________

The most visible project started during last weekend's all day work party was the replacement of the decking on Blue Dock.  Approximately 200 feet of decking was removed in just a few hours by a group of hard working members.  It was necessary to replace this decking due to its age and poor condition.  Boards were rotting and many were very uneven causing people to trip as they walked along.

Mike Leroux who is in charge of the project estimates that construction of the replacement decking will take 6 - 8 weeks.

ABYC hosts Tall Ships America
Regional Ports meeting
- from Krista Slack
_________________________________________________________________

ABYC was pleased to have hosted the Tall Ships America Regional Ports Meeting last week.  Over 60 people attended; including representatives of Tall Ships America, Vessel Captains, Port Organizers and others from all over the Great Lakes region, Ontario and the U.S. Eastern seaboard.  The gathering was the next step in the coordinated planning effort of the TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE Great Lakes 2013 which will take place throughout the region next year.  The Redpath Waterfront Festival Toronto [June 20-23,2013] is very proud to be the Official Launch Port of this bi-national series of events that will commemorate the War of 1812.

ABYC Senior Vice Commodore, Pat Flynn exchanged burgees with Tall Ships America Executive Director Bert Rogers, and on behalf of the ABYC sailing community extended sincere condolences over the recent loss of Captain Robin Walbridge, crew member Claudene Christian and tall ship HMS Bounty which sank off the east coast during Hurricane Sandy.  ABYC Chaplin, Leigh Olsen also presided with a prayer for the family and friends of the HMS Bounty and the Tall Ships community so deeply affected by this tragedy.

Tall Ships America have extended their sincere thanks to ABYC for its wonderful hospitality and warm community atmosphere.
