  Serving our Business Community
October 2014
.

So great to see a full house for the President's luncheon at Lucia's last week! Special welcome to those of you who came to learn more about the Chamber's programs and we hope that you will join this amazing group of business people whose mission is to foster a strong economic climate!  We are most interested in planning programs,events,get-togethers that will broaden your customer base.  Last weekend, we sponsored both the annual yard sale and a sidewalk sale in the center to bring more people to the shops.  It was nice to see the downtown area bustling with activity.  On October 30 we will hold our annual joint meeting with the Rotary club-a great way to meet more people who share similar interests,  On Nov 6, we are excited to sponsor an event that will be most informative for all businesses-The 7 Secrets to Building a Blockbuster Brand.  In short, the Chamber is focusing it's programs this year on helping your business grow-please take advantage of all these great opportunities to get to know the business community.

Free Online ACT Diagnostic Test (Similar to PSAT)

Last year, for the first time, more juniors took the ACT

than the SAT.   Why?  For many students, the ACT is a better

fit for their learning style and knowledge base.

This month, most Juniors will take the PSAT at school.

However, no such test is offered for the ACT.

During October and November, Club Z! In-Home Tutoring

is pleased to offer a free ACT diagnostic test online.  The test

will give students a range of how they would score on the

ACT as well as an explanation of the correct choice for

each question.  They will receive the results immediately

after finishing the test.

Real Estate Trends

An interesting trend that we have observed are many more homes that come on the market have had a fair amount of work done to the home. This includes painting, de-cluttering, staging, and other small projects to increase the buyer demand for the home. A recent client of Waterfield Sotheby's International Realty was thrilled with the results of following his broker's advice on touch ups to the home prior to coming on the market. This particular client compared his broker to a guide through the selling process. Read on to see why having a guide in this market is so important!

" 'You know the difference between a guide and an explorer, don't you? Explorers are doing it for the first time. A guide has been there and back more than once. ' The team at WSIR guided us through several critical passages in our journey. First and least appreciated by us at the time, our WSIR broker suggested, and helped to implement, several improvements to reveal the character of the house to potential buyers. We learned that "sparseness" (way beyond uncluttered) and "light" helped buyers to "get" our house quickly. "

- Tom, Winchester resident and Waterfield Sotheby's International Realty client
