Directory

We are happy to be working with Chamber Profiles again to publish our 2013-2015 Winchester Chamber Directory. By now you should have received a mailing with the 2011 Directory, a letter, an ad rate sheet (as an example / reminder) and emails about the new Directory. As in 2011, the Directory will be online and mailed to every home in Winchester.

Through the business profiles, you can tell the story behind your business, highlight unique services, and offer a discount or promotion to all the current residents, new homeowners, and
visitors of Winchester - Profiles are $295 (same price as 2011).

Also, the display ad spaces give you an opportunity to feature your business and distinguish it from others in the area. The display ad spaces are limited and almost half of the spaces from 2011 are already full - Quarter-page Display Ads start at $395.

All Members will be listed in the back of the Directory in the Member Direction Section.

To be featured in the Directory, simply email Debbie Thompson at Winchester@ChamberProfiles.com or
call her at 617.264.0594. She will walk you through available participation options.
The Deadline to submit all your information is May 31st (but don't wait that long as it will likely fill up as it did in 2011)

Chamber of Commerce: Member Spotlight
Mahoney's Garden Centers

It all began with a small farm stand on the side of the road on Cambridge St. in 1959. My father needed money to pay for tuition at Boston College, and from a small garden out back, he started Mahoney's farm stand. From those small roots my parents, Paul and Doris Mahoney, grew that farm stand into our present company, Mahoney's Garden Centers. Since then, we've expanded to eight garden centers, three year-round florists, a 5-acre growing facility in Woburn and two large outdoor growing ranges in East Falmouth and Chelmsford, all managed by a total of 8 first and second generation Mahoney's.

My parents did a fantastic job of guiding the company into what it is now. With the success of the company, they were able to send all 6 of my generation, to Boston College. Each of us learned different business skills, not only from Boston College but also from working at the garden center, that today help us run the company as a great team.

One particularly proud moment for me was getting involved with America in Bloom with the late Sandy Rodgers, the Town of Winchester, and the Chamber of Commerce. Although we didn't win the national contest, it transformed the downtown into a sea of color. The traditions that we started then continue today with the 120 gorgeous hanging baskets that paint the town each spring and the lovely planters that adorn the storefronts. My family is proud to donate $1,500 worth of the baskets each year. We actually grow all the flowers in our growing facility in Woburn, from the latest hybrid varieties from European breeders (which is why the flowers are so big!). We receive many wonderful comments from customers remarking how great the town looks with the flowers. We're glad to be a part of it and thank the Chamber members, and Jay Gill and his team, for making it all happen each year.

Another aspect we pride ourselves in is employing a lot of local people. You'll find that we're not the only generational family working here, because our employees span generations as well - from high school students taking on their first weekend job, to international exchange farmers, to green-thumb seniors who enjoy sharing their experience. We've really come to think of ourselves as a giant family throughout the Winchester community and beyond. We're proud to be here for so many people, not only to help them beautify their homes, but also to give locals employment opportunities in fields they clearly love - gardening!

Anne Lucas
Member Perspective  ~
Ducks In A Row - Anne Lucas

Someone once called me a "Chamber groupie". I have to say I wear that hat proudly. I think the Chamber of Commerce offers something for every business owner.

I have run a home-based business, Ducks In A Row, a Professional Organizing Service in Winchester for 13 years.
I Joined the Chamber in 2001 and have been a member of the Board
of Directors since 2006. Being a Chamber member has given me the opportunity to meet other business owners that I would never have otherwise met. My business would not have grown like it has without my connection to the Chamber.

The Chamber sponsors networking events like the Business Expo, Women Helping Women, and Business After-hours. These events give business owners the chance to make connections with other local merchants. Making these connections helps my business. Meeting these folks has also given me a wonderful list of resources to help my clients, which helps me. I have also received countless referrals from
other Chamber members which have been instrumental in growing my business.

As a member of the Board of Directors I have learned so much about business in Winchester. For example I am impressed with my fellow Board members knowledge and understanding of Town parking and zoning issues. I'm also impressed with how tirelessly they work to have an impact on any changes theTown considers in these areas.

I am a "Chamber groupie" and you should be too.
