The wait is (almost) over! The new St. Francis Cancer Center opens this month, on October 20. Read on to learn more about the future of cancer care at St. Francis.

St. Francis Cancer Center Opening Soon

The new center, located at the ST. FRANCIS millennium campus off Laurens Road, is the only freestanding outpatient cancer center in the county. This is important because it brings together all the services and treatments that cancer patients need, in one beautiful, healing-centered place. This not only enhances convenience for the patient (think: nutrition consultations while getting a chemo infusion), but is expected to enhance overall quality of care. Now, the oncologists, nurse navigators, clinical trials coordinators and support professionals are physically closer together, which will no doubt enhance communication and speed up processes.

Everything about the St. Francis Cancer Center was built with our patients in mind. In the Infusion Center, a wall of windows overlooks soothing nature scenes and privacy partitions slide back (if preferred) to encourage connection to others undergoing treatment. The Infusion Center also includes a separate Bone Marrow Transplant/Apheresis unit with additional comforts to help with the longer duration of their infusion sessions.

The Cancer Center will include a retail boutique, a drive-thru pharmacy, a caf featuring healthy foods, a chapel, and education room, even water bottle fill stations to encourage hydration.

In addition to the beautiful new building, St. Francis is adding its own, brand new, Linear Accelerator for radiation therapy. This amazing piece of equipment has advanced features not found in any other cancer center in our area. Its new technology uses a higher dose of radiation that can be more accurately targeted, meaning that the cancer cells can be killed in a shorter session, while sparing the healthy surrounding cells. Radiation Oncologists from the renowned Gibbs Cancer Center will partner with St. Francis to provide care for those undergoing radiation.
