MICROENTERPRISE GRANT  
Applications Available Online

The Town of Bethlehem was successful in its application to the New York State Office of Homes and Community Renewal for the creation of a Microenterprise Grant Program.  The Town will receive $200,000 to provide grants to eligible Microenterprises, emerging, and existing businesses that want to locate in or expand within the Town of Bethlehem.  It is anticipated that a minimum of ten (10) businesses will be assisted with the awarded grant funds.  Grant awards will range from $5,000 to $35,000 and can be used to purchase inventory, machinery, equipment, furniture, fixtures and to meet working capital needs. 
Businesses who are interested in learning more about the Microenterprise Grant Program and the application process but were unable to attend the information sessions, may view the Microenterprise Grant Presentation.

The Harvest Gala begins at 6:00 PM on Saturday, October 3 on the lovely grounds of a local, Slingerlands mansion. Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy will present "Mushrooms of the Northeast"
a two-part course about the mushrooms of the Capital Region. Learn from a classroom presentation about mushrooms and apply your knowledge during a field session while enjoying a sneak preview of the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy's new Bozen Kill Preserve, opening to the public later this fall.  Dave Muska of  Ondatra Adventures will be the instructor. Join us on Thursday, September 24 from 6-8 pm. Classroom presentation at MHLC office, 425 Kenwood Ave. Delmar and Saturday, September 26 from 9 am-1 pm for Field session at MHLC's Bozen Kill Preserve in Knox, NY. The cost is $10 per person. In this course, we will learn the fascinating ecological roles of our local fungi, as well as key characteristics used in the identification of mushrooms. Topics covered will include identification techniques, taxonomy, morphology, edibility & toxicity, and medicinal fungi, as well as 'best' harvesting practices. Learn more and register here. 

TOP FORM Delmar will be kicking off a 9 WEEK OBSTACLE COURSE TRAINING PROGRAM for athletes!  It will target your whole body, improve strength and cardiovascular endurance and push you out of your comfort zone!  It is designed to create a positive team atmosphere of fitness, nutrition and lifestyle that optimizes each person's performance. It is unlike any other boot camp. You will have weekly homework, you will have nutritional challenges, you will all be accountable to each other during the 9 weeks!  Slots are limited to 10 athletes. Pine Hollow Arboretum is looking for photographs for its upcoming exhibition "Images of Nature" coming to the Arboretum on October 3rd. Curators for the Exhibit are Alan Casline, John Berninger, Kay Abbuhl, and Mark W. O'Brien. E-mail up to three images to Alan Casline.  If selected you must be able to deliver framed photographs to the Pine Hollow Arboretum Visitors Center on the weekend of September 26-27 or by special arrangement with one of the Curators. More details will be shared once your photograph is selected. The theme for the show is meant to encompass all nature oriented subjects and is not limited to just photos taken at the arboretum. Framed photos cannot have larger than 11" X 17" image size.

12th Annual Albany Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk will be held on Sun., Sept. 13th, at the Elm Avenue Town Park, Large Pavilion, Delmar, NY 12054. Registration begins at 8:00 and the walk starts at 10:15 a.m. There will be refreshments, a pick-a-prize auction, Code Blue band, individual/team photos, and entertainment for the entire family. Lunch could also be purchased afterwards from the Four Corners Luncheonette truck. Join us as we increase funding for research and raise awareness for pancreatic cancer, the 4th leading cause of cancer death in this country.All proceeds will benefit The Lustgarten Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, dedicated solely to pancreatic cancer research. Cablevision NY covers all Lustgarten corporate expenses, so 100% of all funds raised go directly to research. Bethlehem Historical Association begins their new program year with a talk by New York State Archaeologist Dr. Christina Rieth.  Dr. Rieth will speak about Twenty-first Century Archaeology in New York State. Join us on Thursday evening September 17 at 7 PM at the Cedar Hill Schoolhouse, 1003 River Road, Selkirk.  Refreshments and conversation to follow.  Free and open to the public. Dr. Reith oversees a collection of over 4 million items of Native and Euro- American manufacture. It includes the largest Dutch Colonial archaeological materials in North America.  Her research of late Prehistoric populations of the Northeastern United States and Canada has led to greatly increased understanding of the movement of settlements, their trade and interactions with their environment and each other.

On Thursdays between 10 AM and 2 PM, the Town of Bethlehem will be accepting donations for Habitat ReStore in the Capital District of slightly used furnishings, working appliances, cabinets, and other building materials at the Town of Bethlehem Transfer Station, 136 Rupert Rd, Selkirk, NY. Delmar Farmers Market is open Saturdays, 9am-1pm for the season.  Visit over 50 vendors for farm fresh produce, crafts and food stands. At the Bethlehem Middle School, 332 Kenwood Avenue every Saturday through December.

The Albany County Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACCVB) is offering a Hospitality Grant Program to support Albany County's hospitality industry by funding programs that will help build and sustain Albany County tourism destinations, attractions, events, and other tourism-related activities. The Fund encourages collaboration between nonprofit organizations, community groups, and hospitality businesses.  The grant is being administered by the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region.
