MICROENTERPRISE GRANT  
Applications Available Online

The Town of Bethlehem was successful in its application to the New York State Office of Homes and Community Renewal for the creation of a Microenterprise Grant Program.  The Town will receive $200,000 to provide grants to eligible Microenterprises, emerging, and existing businesses that want to locate in or expand within the Town of Bethlehem.  It is anticipated that a minimum of ten (10) businesses will be assisted with the awarded grant funds.  Grant awards will range from $5,000 to $35,000 and can be used to purchase inventory, machinery, equipment, furniture, fixtures and to meet working capital needs. 
Businesses who are interested in learning more about the Microenterprise Grant Program and the application process but were unable to attend the information sessions, may view the Microenterprise Grant Presentation.

The Bethlehem Food Pantry collects school supplies for children in the Bethlehem Central, RCS and Guilderland School Districts whose families live in our town and are eligible to use a local food pantry. Check online for a list of needed supplies. Monetary donations accepted. Please make checks payable to Bethlehem Senior Projects, Inc. and reference School Supplies in the memo. Donations may be brought Monday through Friday before August 14 to the town Senior Services department or the Bethlehem Area YMCA, 900 Delaware Avenue, Delmar. Berkshire Bank, America's Most Exciting BankŪ announced that Shane Pucci of Wynantskill, New York won the Exciting Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) Sweepstakes. Shane received the grand prize of $3,500 during a check presentation ceremony July 11th.  Almost 10,000 consumers entered the Berkshire Bank's Exciting HELOC Sweepstakes which was promoted from mid-March through the end of June.  New and existing home equity line of credit customers were automatically entered into the contest, and consumers could enter on berkshirebank.com during the contest period.  The winner of the sweepstakes had the option to have the prize applied directly to their home equity line of credit, or elect to receive the cash prize payable by check.  Shane was randomly selected as the grand prize winner among 9,741 registered contestants.  Berkshire Bank has two locations in Bethlehem, 255 Delaware Avenue, Delmar and 11 Vista Blvd., Slingerlands.

Free Movement Pilates in Delmar will host an Open House and Art Show on Friday, August 7 from 6-8pm at the studio, 500 Kenwood Avenue. Ages 7-14 Become a Triple Threat. Hone your acting, singing and dancing skills. Work with professionals on technique, vocals and movement. Students work together to create scenes and learn Broadways songs and stage choreography. All students receive a copy of their music for auditions. Students perform in an end-of-week showcase open to family and friends. STARS ON STAGE!, August 24 - August 28. 9am - 3pm. Ages 6 - 10. This week gives students a chance to be in their first musical! Students engage in creative play while learning about the world of theatre. Together, they explore character development, hone vocal skills and learn choreography all while putting together a musical!

History Hike Saturday, August 8, 9:30am

Meet at the Henry Hudson Park gazebo for a loop through the park on the shores of the Hudson River and along Lyons and Barent-Winne Roads. Catch a glimpse of the historic Nicoll Sill House, the waterfall on the Vloman Kill and the Governor Glynn Mansion. Learn about the days of ice harvesting, steam boats and summer homes. DETAILS: All History Hikes begin at 9:30am and last about an hour. The hikes are free; however you must pre-register through the Bethlehem Parks and Recreation Department using their mail-in registration form or through their  online system. Sponsored by the Bethlehem Historical Association. Each hike is limited to 20 people. In case of inclement weather, check the Bethlehem Historical Association's website for cancellations. Info will be posted by 8am the day of the hike.

  

History Paddle, Saturday, August 22 9-10am. Meet at the Henry Hudson Park boat launch. Learn about Bethlehem's historic river connections from the unique perspective of actually being on the water. Experience the historic Nicoll-Sill House, Winne's dock, Parda Hook and, if the creek is passable, the waterfall on the Vlomankill. Participants MUST bring all of their own gear and be proficient paddlers. Town Historian Susan Leath will provide the history information but is not a boating instructor. High tide is predicted for 9:43am. Questions can be directed to Susan Leath.

 

The Delmar Farmers Market is open Saturdays, 9am-1pm for the season.  Visit over 50 vendors for farm fresh produce, crafts and food stands. At the Bethlehem Middle School, 332 Kenwood Avenue every Saturday through December.     
 
Tuesday Delmar Farmers' Market

AROUND THE REGION...
 
New York State is offering two hour training courses for residents to have the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster, respond accordingly and recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions.  A key component to the training is distribution of free NYS Disaster Preparedness Kits to each family that attends the in-person, regional public events where registration is required.  A local session is planned for Tuesday, August 11, 6pm at Crossgates Mall in Guilderland.  For more information and to Register, visit the website.
