Celebrate the Valentine Season with D'Amore Duo at the Davis Art Center

D'Amore Duo

The 4th Annual Classical Guitar Ensemble Series kicks off at 8 pm Friday with a program by guitar and oboe ensemble D'Amore Duo. Featuring guitarist William Feasley and oboist Yeon Jee Sohn, the duo has released three critically acclaimed recordings and performed around the globe to enthusiastic reviews.
Tickets - $15 general admission, $10 for students and seniors, $5 for children age 12 and under, online or at door one half hour before performance.

In conjunction with California Duck Days, the Art Center presents the annual Wildlife Art Exhibit February 6-23.
In its twelfth year, the Wildlife Art Exhibit features artworks from local high school students on local wildlife themes. The show has grown each year from 85 artworks in the first show to about 240 displayed last year. California Duck Days Gala Benefit February 22, 5:30-7:30 pm.

Art Sale: A Small Community Collects Big

Only a month left left to see and purchase works from "A Community Collects Big: The Collection of the Davis Art Center" at the Paul Thiebaud Gallery. This historic collection encompasses more than 150 artworks by prominent artists with ties to Davis. The exhibit and sale closes March 2. In this interview, Executive Director Erie Vitiello describes the motivation behind the decision to sell the collection.

Vedic Chanting has extended its offerings to include more dates through June! Ann Rogers leads these yoga-based vocal classes (Wednesday 10-11:30 146018) and monthly workshops (Sundays 12-2:30 146091) for adult students.
Instructor Sara Post has two exciting additions for adult students this winter/spring season. In Art Makers Workshop students work with interesting ideas and diverse media, and discover areas of inspiration and support. (Thursdays, Feb 14, 21 and 28 March 7, 7-9pm, 133305A). Cold wax combined with oil paint forms a painting medium which is unique and versatile. In Painting with Oil & Cold Wax students will create surfaces of great depth and beauty. (May 18, 19, 9am-noon, 1-4pm, 133290A)
"Irish dancers, it's time to 'step' it up!", says instructor Ariana Rundquist, who is offering two new classes this spring. In Pre-Irish Dance children ages 4-6 will learn the very basics of soft shoe Irish dance, a fun and energetic way to develop good posture, strong legs, and a winning smile. (Mondays, 3:45-4:45pm, 2/11-3/11, 114100A) Children, 8-12, with at least one year of previous Irish dance experience can join Beginning Hardshoe Irish Dance. They will learn the basics of hardshoe Irish Stepdancing, a fabulous way to improve your posture and technique, get some great exercise, and impress your friends with some noisy feet! (Mondays, 5-6pm, 2/11-3/11, 114105A) Dancers in both classes will have the opportunity to perform an original choreography at the Davis Art Center Dancers' Showcase, March 16th, just in time for St. Patrick's Day!
