Easter and the Spirit of Taiz

Gushing life forces make spring continually amazing. And the more we know about our universe the more amazing we realize life is. NASA recently stated that finding extraterrestrial life is part of their 20 year goal, that is in fact to identify traces of microbes on Mars. Meanwhile our blue planet, gorgeously shining in space, is it for now.

The dazzling effect of life forces make our meaning questions even more confronting. Those questions of life don't come simply through an intellectual route. The encompassing forces of life also work continually through us. And at the inmost crossroad of our being we may sense a flow and yearning of creation that seeks to express and assert itself. And there we may sense a connection with the transcendent force of God's Spirit.

The spirituality of Taiz has development a keen sense of guiding people towards that crossroad of life. The simple lyrics and meditative chants of the Taiz tradition accompany participants to an encounter with God's presence and the beauty of the risen Lord in a reverent and grateful mindset.

At Trinity we have joined the celebration of this tradition since a number of years. This is why I would like to alert you to the opportunity of meeting a visiting delegation of brother of Taiz coming to New Haven this upcoming week:

Taiz Evening Prayer with Brothers of Taiz: Tuesday April 14, 7p.m. Dwight Chapel at Yale.

What the Taiz spirituality helps to highlight is an aspect of our faith that we celebrate during this Easter season. The presence of the risen Lord is not simply a notional aspect of our faith. The sustaining, comforting and guiding presence of God is seeking to refresh us daily.

Put Your Money Where Your Music Is
Boys Choir Oct./2011

Easter was a stunning example of how much music inspires and enhances our worship. Trinity's long term financial stability urgently requires that the parish find new ways to raise money and control costs - without raising new funding the Music program will face budget cuts to reduce its cost. Our goal is to raise at least $50,000 each year for the next three years. Many pledges and donations have come in but we still need your help!

We have received over $16,000 in pledges and gifts toward our goal of $50,000. It's important that to communicate things are already happening but we still need your support.

The money raised will support the music portion of our budget and create an endowment that will ensure the continuation of our music program for many years to come. The first phase of this effort is an appeal to parishioners to give one-time gifts, or pledges to be paid throughout 2015, dedicated to music. In the very near future, the music committee will be sponsoring fundraising events, such as concerts, and launching an appeal to alumni, former choir families and others in the greater New Haven area who love Trinity's music. While the challenges we face may be difficult, they are not insurmountable. Together we can work to ensure a bright future for Trinity's music program.

Livingston Taylor at Trinity May 29, 7p.m.

Tickets available soon.
