Our Mission

The Rev. Dr. Luk De Volder During the summer months I have started an interview process for a new Assistant Rector. To help me in interviewing applicants I have set up an interview team, including the wardens, Jack Tebes and Lisa Omark, the president of the Home Board, Carol Davidson, and the two most recent former wardens, Warner Marshall and Barbara Hedberg. Our parish has a rich tradition of worship and outreach, of care and music, of community building and art.  With the needs of the parish in mind we have welcomed applicants from diverse backgrounds, have been reviewing applications, and have been in conversation with six strong candidates.  So far we have invited and met with three candidates for interviews at Trinity. It has been an honor to meet clergy candidates full of inspiration and desire for ministry and our meetings have been very enriching experiences.  I and the Wardens continue to seek input and ideas from the Vestry and parishioners as this process concludes.  Through prayer and discernment I hope to complete the interview process very soon.

Blessings,
Luk
2014 - 2015 Seminarian Interns

Stephen Douglas
I am a second-year MDiv candidate at Yale Divinity School, Berkeley Divinity School, and the Yale Institute of Sacred Music. Originally from Pittsburgh, I taught fiction writing at Brooklyn College before moving to New Haven for school. I'm very excited and thankful to be working and worshipping with the Trinity community this year.

Zack Nyein
I grew up in East Tennessee at the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. My mother is a Tennessee native, and my father is from Rangoon, Burma, where his dad was the deputy prime minister before the government was overthrown by a military dictatorship in 1962. I am a lifelong Episcopalian and find great spiritual nourishment in our ancient patterns of common prayer and worship. I am currently a first year seminarian at Yale Divinity School and a postulant for the priesthood in the Diocese of East Tennessee, sponsored by St. John's Cathedral. I am a musician by trade and attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK), where I studied music education and choral conducting and I am excited to see how my Perichoresis project will evolve at Trinity and in New Haven!

2014 - 2015 Sunday School Registration

Godly Play Logo Our Sunday School welcomes all children in Preschool to grade 6 with a program called Godly Play and children in grades 7 and 8 with the Upper Room Program. Linda Sheehan is our Sunday School Director. She is a very experienced teacher and has successfully introduced and developed the Godly Play curriculum in our children's Sunday school. Volunteer teachers are helping Linda every Sunday to ensure a positive learning environment for our children. People interested in joining our teachers team, please see or email Linda at [email protected].

The new Sunday School year began on September 14, from 10:10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Registration is available online! Click here to access the registration form.

For more information, send an email to [email protected] or see Linda Sheehan.

Upper Room Program:

The Upper Room curriculum is a fun teenage oriented program that offers weekly themes related to the questions of faith and life teenagers seek to discuss. The youth prayer book "Call on Me" is a popular and shared resource from which participants select their favorite prayer of that Sunday. Our Upper Room teacher is David Phelps. Father of 3 children himself, David has also taught this age group for many years. His experience with Middle School Age children makes the participants feel comfortable to voice their questions and to engage in discussions that their faith life needs.

For more information please contact David Phelps at [email protected]. The program began on September 14 in the "Upper Room".

Save the Date: Annual Parish Meeting & Potluck

Meeting
On Sunday, October 19 following the combined 10:00 a.m. service, Trinity will host the Annual Parish Meeting & Potluck luncheon. This year, there will be an exciting  new program of "workshops" to participate in that will offer opportunities for learning, deepening spirituality, and fellowship. Combined with delicious food to enjoy, this is not to be missed. Please plan to attend.

All are asked to bring their favorite dish according to your last name: A-H - main dish, I-Qside dish, R-Zdessert.
Become a Member of the Acolytes Team at the 11:00 a.m. service

Acolytes

The requirements are very simple...just be available at least once per month to serve at the 11:00 a.m. service. A schedule will be available in advance so your commitment will be known in the event you need to make a change.

In case you are not familiar with what the acoltyes do ...we are the participants dressed in red and white robes that carry the lead cross, torches and clergy cross, banners, and the all important Gospel Book. For every service you would be assigned a task and be asked to carry out the duties of that task. There are no speaking parts and we would never put you into a position of being uncomfortable during the service. On the job training is the best way to do it, so why not sign up and give it a try.

Please contact Cris Sigovitch at [email protected] or see him during a Sunday service for more information.

Perichoresis

We are excited to announce that we had a great turnout on September 15! We will continue to meet every other Monday night at 6:11 p.m. in the undercroft for a "dinner church" gathering, complete with food, communion, music from a wide variety of traditions, and an interactive liturgy of the word.

For more information visit our website, www.perichor.org, and facebook page, www.facebook.com/perichor; there is a link on the website for anyone who would like to sign up for regular updates.

There will be plenty of ways to be involved! Please contact Seminarian Zack Nyein for more information at [email protected].

Ebola Affecting Liberia and Trinity Members Are Fighting to Save Lives

Quentin and Wokie Stewart, of Liberian origin and members of Trinity, are trying to save family, friends, and members of their Arthington village in the Morovia area, Liberia, that has been affected by the Ebola virus. The situation is dire: some of their family members have already died because of the virus.

With the Arthington Reconstruction and Development Association they are organizing a fundraiser dinner in support of their village on October 18, at 6:00 p.m., at St. Sebastian Hall--130 Father Salemi Drive, Ansonia. Tickets will be available at the church for $10. For this dinner Quentin and Wokie are calling for donations of water bottles and soda. All monetary donations are most welcome.

POSTPONED - Christianity 101 - Confirmation Class

Confirmation class is postponed to begin on Sunday, January 11, 2015. More details to follow.

Some of these items listed are gift cards, we never distribute gift cards to people who we don't know or who struggle with addiction. Only after careful screening, do we reach out in ways that are really serving.

  • Winter Coats (3)
  • Large back packs (2)
  • Rain Ponchos
  • Walmart/Dollar Tree $15 Gift Cards (underwear, vitamins, sanitary supplies)
