The Growth Management Policy Board heard a presentation on the Port of Tacoma regional manufacturing-industrial center.

 

Kell McAboy, Port of Tacoma, and Ian Munce, City of Tacoma, described the land use, transportation facilities, and other characteristics of the Port of Tacoma center, which encompasses 5,585 acres of waterfront land and waterways on Tacoma's Commencement Bay.

 

Recent planning efforts related to the center include the Tideflats Transportation Study and the Container Port Element of the City of Tacoma's comprehensive plan. View the presentation or watch the discussion.

The Growth Management Policy Board learned about the Regional Food Policy Council's work to support the local food economy and access to healthy food.

 

Seattle Councilmember Richard Conlin gave an update on the activities of the Regional Food Policy Council. Through a contract with the Department of Health, the Council has developed Policy Blueprints to help local communities address challenges related to the food system.  Challenges include economic viability of local agriculture, access to healthy food, and preserving agricultural resources.   

 

The current policy blueprints cover five topic areas:  comprehensive plans, urban agriculture, farmers markets, and local food procurement. (Rural Farmland Preservation is under development.)  View the presentation or watch the discussion.

The Growth Management Policy Board continued its discussion of stormwater in the region.
