Growing Transit Communities Strategy Released for Public Comment

The Growing Transit Communities Oversight Committee has released the Draft Growing Transit Communities Strategy for public comment!

The Draft Strategy lays out recommendations and an implementation framework to promote more thriving and equitable transit communities in the central Puget Sound region. It includes three components: a regional compact to express partners' commitment for continued collaboration and implementation - The Pledge, detailed recommended strategies and actions guided by a People + Place Implementation Typology - The Playbook, and individual work plans to identify actions partners can take to support thriving and equitable transit communities - The Plans.

The Strategy follows an 18-month collaborative process in the region's three long-range light rail corridors, with additional guidance from the Affordable Housing and Equity Network Steering Committees.

The public comment period is open until June 7. Please visit the program website for more information on the Strategy, including links to the full report and Executive Summary. Please contact Program Manager Ben Bakkenta for more information.

Final Round of Grant Program Emphasizes Community Engagement

Seven community-based proposals, representing a range of projects in the Puget Sound region, will receive funding in the fourth (and final) round of the Growing Transit Communities Equity Grant Program. This represents an investment of $53,500, and a total investment of $421,374 thus far in community-based outreach and engagement, research, and organizing projects through the Growing Transit Communities Partnership.  The last funding round emphasized continuation grants to expand or deepen some of the grant work underway. Please visit the Partnership website for a summary of the Round 4 recipients or for more information on the current and past Equity Grant Program recipients.

The Equity Grant Program provides small grants of up to $15,000 to nonprofit organizations located or working within the three major transit corridors.  Grants to community-based organizations provide resources to organize and increase participation of historically underrepresented communities and give voice to community priorities.  For more information on the Equity Grant Program, please contact Heidi Hall or visit www.impactcapital.org/equity.html
