The Growth Management Policy Board discussed the topic of managing stormwater within cities and implementation of VISION 2040.
Overview
Tacoma Councilmember Ryan Mello, vice chair of the Growth Management Policy Board, gave the introduction. He noted that stormwater requirements and other challenges of infill development can be hurdles for cities working to achieve growth management goals.
VISION 2040 calls on metropolitan areas to accept significant growth while, at the same time, to meet environmental goals, including those for managing stormwater and water quality. The presentations today are the start of a conversation about addressing the details that affect implementation of VISION 2040.

Bill Moore, Washington State Department of Ecology, presented an overview of stormwater permitting requirements. View the presentation or watch the discussion.
Leonard Bauer, Washington State Department of Commerce, provided information on integrating stormwater management requirements into comprehensive plans.
Local Case Studies
Councilmember David Boe, City of Tacoma, described Tacoma's experiences with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permits and development projects. View the presentation.
Jon Spangler from the City of Redmond's Public Works department described two approaches that Redmond has developed to address stormwater requirements. View the presentation.
