Bishop Smith's reflections
Three months in office is long enough to begin to notice patterns. An irate congregational member calls to blame the pastor for all the congregation's dwindling attendance and financial resources. A pastor calls to lament a church-averse culture and a congregation of consumers instead of disciples. Blame! Thanks for saving Lutheridge!
Dear Friends of Lutheridge and NovusWay, the prayers and advocacy of thousands of friends across the southeastern U.S. have been answered with the announcement of November 4 that Duke Energy will not be running the electric transmission line through Lutheridge. Thank you on behalf of Lutheridge and the entire NovusWay family, Keith Johnson, Executive Director, NovusWay. |

Victoria Deal's Lutheridge experience
Throughout its years of ministry, Lutheridge has been used by the Lord to touch the lives of many in profound and lasting ways. Camp is a place where campers can forget who they pretend to be, and remember who they truly are. It's a place free of judgment and full of "cool kids" who achieve this "cool" status by being imperfect, weird, loving, and accepting. Camp is a place apart from the world and unlike any other.
Camper Victoria Deal of Holy Trinity, Hickory, found her experience to be no exception. Her first trip to Lutheridge took place when she was only ten days old and since then she's seen the impact of camp on others and experienced that impact herself.
In her confirmation faith statement, Victoria says, "At first it was just fun and a place away from home, but it later became a place where I was surrounded by God and a place that made my relationship with him grow." "Lutheridge counselors" made her list of people who helped her learn more about the love of Christ.
Lutheridge rejoices in the opportunity to be a part of Victoria's faith story. It is our mission to "provide places set apart to inspire and empower all in Christ's love." Thank you, Victoria, for allowing us to be a part of your story! If God has used Lutheridge, Lutherock, Luther Springs, or Lutheranch to "inspire and empower" you in Christ's love, we'd love to hear from you! Contact Kara Beck. Also, if you're interested in bringing a confirmation group to Lutheridge or Lutherock, please contact the registration office.

God's Work. Our Hands. reports
Mt. Zion, ConoverGod's Work. Our Hands Sunday was a success at Mt. Zion, Conover. Sixty people participated in projects at Sipe's Orchard Home and in the church fellowship hall for Lutheran World Relief. At Sipe's Orchard Home much work was accomplished on three buildings. The overall plan at Sipe's Orchard Home is to expand the program for homeless 17-21 year olds. Currently 8-10 young people have aged out of foster care but have no family for guidance and care. The waiting list is 70 young people. Our efforts to help with those three buildings move the Home closer to providing more space for needy young people. In the fellowship hall, 87 school kits, 82 personal care kits, and 43 fabric kits were put together and packaged. Beth-Eden, Newton In July, Beth-Eden's project was to collect cards addressed to An American Hero. Members of the congregation wrote these with personal words of encouragement. Women of the ELCA members crocheted prayer cards for each. A prayer card was also included. We collected 533 cards and had a service of blessing with our veterans laying hands on the cards. They were then sent to the chaplain at Walter Reid Hospital to be given to wounded soldiers. We also collected 20 cell phones to send to soldiers. |
