 Fleet managers are rigorous in their efforts to optimize productivity and manage operating costs, but a third leg of the stool can impair both objectives. Equipment acquisition strategies, whether leasing or purchasing, can sap resources throughout the lease term or economic life of the lift truck when not properly specified at the outset.
"A lack of alignment between financing strategies and operations is the most common issue I see," says David Brown, national account manager for Toyota Material Handling USA. "They are usually under- or over-depreciating and not accounting for hours of use. It creates a lot of risk, and I see a lot of companies handcuff themselves by not accounting for true hour usage."

Forklift Telematics Doesn't Equal Big Brother

 By 2019, ABI Research expects around 30 million service vehicles will have telematics installed, allowing more businesses to monitor operator performance and compliance in real time. While management may like the idea of adding vehicle management systems and tracking technologies, they must overcome some operator objections in order for these new tools to be successful.
One of the objections is that "big brother" is watching. These technologies are seen by operators as overly intrusive, and they aren't trusted. If operators don't feel trusted, they don't feel valued, which can reduce productivity and increase turnover. |

Luke Kocher Completes Frigid Wisconsin Race

Earlier this month Toyota-Lift of Minnesota's service coordinator competed in another bicycle race. The Tuscobia Winter Ultra is a self-supported human powered run/bike/ski event held on the Tuscobia and Wild Rivers state trails in northern Wisconsin.
With temperatures in the negative double digits for most of the race, it was a tough year, but Luke pulled it off finishing the 160 mile course in those conditions.
Readers might remember Luke completing the Trans American Bike race in 2016.
