Deciding on Just the Right Forklift
We've all seen the shiny new truck on the job site with an extended cab, leather, DVD player-and a tailgate that looks like a tree fell on it. Just as familiar is the truck whose best years are far behind it, yet it's hauling a family camper. These are clear examples of the wrong truck for the job, but the match between forklift truck and application is not always quite so obvious. If the loads get lifted and the trucks get loaded, all is well.

But if you look at maintenance, utilization, productivity and total cost of equipment, you get a clearer picture of a forklift truck's fitness for the task. As equipment sellers, users and service providers collect more data and get better at interpreting it, the art of pairing tool and task is becoming a well-honed science. It's now possible to accurately predict whether a given lift truck model will under-perform, over-perform or get it just right.

"Does every truck at the loading dock need to use chocks?"

We wouldn't want to be the folks that tell you no. You probably don't want to be the company that doesn't require it. OSHA's regulation 1910.178(k)(1) says "The brakes of highway trucks shall be set and wheel chocks placed under the rear wheels to prevent the trucks from rolling while they are boarded with powered industrial trucks." You could argue that it's only when forklifts are loading or unloading them, but why do you need to argue against common workplace safety sense?
Parts Department
Parts Supply Chain Management and Forklift Trucks
parts on shelf For much of their history, lift trucks were managed and maintained in-house, with minimal post-sale assistance from dealers. Now that many lift truck users have entered into maintenance agreements with dealers, equipment users no longer have to oversee the minutiae of fleet maintenance. By the same token, dealers and service providers are now challenged to efficiently manage services and parts supplies to ensure the uptime their clients demand.

As original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) develop fleet management solutions, dealers and service providers also leverage many of the same technologies, reporting metrics and inventory management tools.

5 Reasons to Rent
Due to their durable design and capability for heavy loads, forklifts have become indispensable in the warehousing and construction industries, but you don't always have to own one.

A forklift is a high power industrial truck that is used to lift and move objects when it isn't humanly feasible to do so. As their popularity increases, many businesses are now opting to rent instead of own forklifts.

5 Reasons You Can't Afford To Overlook Forklift Vehicle Management Systems
forklift safe horseplay Your forklift fleet and other powered industrial trucks are the workhorses of material handling operations and managing them effectively has its challenges. Forklift accidents are the second leading cause of fatalities in the private sector (highway vehicles being the first) according to OSHA. Also, operator labor represents the largest single cost component of material handling operations and a fleet of industrial vehicles is very expensive to acquire and maintain. A forklift vehicle management system can help control these and other safety, productivity and damage issues that are so common in fleets.

The fundamental starting place is vehicle access control, or restricting who can operate your trucks. Since it's impossible for your industrial vehicle operators to keep dozens of keys in their pockets, inevitably keys are always left in trucks' ignitions. That means anyone can operate the trucks at any time with little, if any, accountability

"Is there really a regulation that says you can't check how much gas is in the tank with a lighter?"

Yes, you might not be able to fix stupid, but you can try to regulate it. OSHA regulation 1910.178(p)(5) Open flames shall not be used for checking electrolyte level in storage batteries or gasoline level in fuel tanks.

Is Pokmon Go in Your Warehouse?
pokeman You can be forgiven if you've never said Snorlax and supply chain - or Mewtwo and manufacturing - in the same sentence. While the stunningly successful Nintendo game, Pokmon Go, might have your kids running all over the neighborhood capturing those friendly monsters, it might be hard to imagine what place it could have in the supply chain!
