Forklift Trucks 2016: What's Up with the Latest in Forklift Technology
When it comes to lift trucks, the number one criterion is safety-for the operator, as well as for pedestrians. It should come, then, as no surprise that the lift truck manufacturers have expended significant investments in upgrading their models to improve line-of-sight visibility, ergonomic comfort, vehicle stability, maneuverability and other essential features that are just as important-and maybe even more important-as how many pounds the forks can lift.

"When do we need to keep the headlights on our forklift?"

Headlamps are a never a bad idea. OSHA regulation 1910.178(h)(2) says that "Where general lighting is less than 2 lumens per square foot, auxiliary directional lighting shall be provided on the truck."

A single lumen is defined as the amount of light a candle makes at a distance of one foot. So a room at two lumens is relatively dark. We always advocate that headlamps on a truck are always responsible.
Parts Department
Why Are Your Parts People so Nosy?
All you want is a stinking seat after all and the forklift parts guys are all over you. You've been sitting on what remains of yours for a couple of years now after picking away at the stuffing to the point where you're down to sitting on the frame.

You call into our dealership's parts department finally resigned to spend the capital to return to comfort. You tell the parts person on the phone that you have a Toyota 7FGCU15 and immediately your pressed for the serial number. Then the parts person goes on with the third degree asking you all sorts of questions about your forklift. "It's just a seat man" you exclaim, but he insists.

Manage Your Risks and Control Your Costs
Train Your Trainer: Forklift Safety - Next Class September 27th
How much would it cost in emotional and financial terms if your company experienced a serious forklift accident? How much is it costing you today with the small accidents that happen every day? Should there be a reportable accident, how comfortable are you that in a courtroom your forklift safety program won't wither under scrutiny?

One way is limiting the risk to your employees, product and equipment by having well trained and certified forklift operators. With new personnel coming in, and others changing positions, how can you manage your risk and control your expenses effectively?

One answer is by having your own forklift trainer on staff. An individual familiar with your equipment, your physical layout and your company's plan and vision.

Toyota Lift of Minnesota is holding another "Train the Trainer" course September 27th. We invite you to look at the details and decide if it is time for you to control your risks and costs. Train the Trainer can be an easy choice.

Forklift Service: Getting What You Need
So, why are we any different from the rest? What makes our forklift service effort not only different, but better for the customer? This is the million dollar question that if we can't answer, we might as well just lower our prices or forfeit the business. The hard facts are the competition is not significantly different from us in many ways.

"We have a heavy duty dockboard that we've used for years, now you're telling us to modify it?"

We have no issue with your dockboard's ability to do its job safely. What our employee took issue with was the lack of any real method to handle it. One of the requirements of a dockboard like yours is that it has in place something that addresses this OSHA regulation: 1910.30(a)(4) Handholds, or other effective means, shall be provided on portable dockboards to permit safe handling.
