5 Tips on Selling Your Used Forklift
People sell their used forklifts for various reasons. Sometimes, it is because they have upgraded to better models. Sometimes, it is a matter of "making room" for the already overflowing warehouse. In spite of the reason for selling your used forklift, one thing is clear: you need a buyer, sometimes rather desperately. For those of you who are looking for an effective way to market your used forklift, here are 5 straightforward tips that will help you to find a buyer and close the deal!

Tip #1: Find out about your forklift's value

Your forklift is not as new as the time you purchased it. Hours of heavy duty lifting has not only caused your forklift to lose its attractive appearance, but also compromised its functionality. In other words, your forklift in its used condition will not get you the same value you paid for it five or ten years ago. So be prepared to settle for less. Research and compare your used model against the ones that are currently on the market. Find out what price others are selling for a similar forklift like yours. Knowing this will help you to plan a price that is both competitive and reasonable.

"Your tech told us our forklift mast chain wears, that it doesn't stretch. Which is it?"

The tech is correct, a chain over time wears at it's pivot points. The chain elongates [this is where the confusion starts] as it wears. Call or email us if you would like a chain wear table. With a common ruler you can judge the safety of your lift truck mast chain.
Parts Department
Alternative Forklift Parts Programs
Many companies are very self-sufficient when it comes to maintaining their own forklift fleet. With competent technicians and good maintenance procedures they keep their fleets running smoothly and efficiently. What they often don't have however is an all-inclusive portal to replacement forklift parts, especially with mixed fleets.

Perhaps your company might need a hand in this?

Registration Ends Soon! - Manage Your Risks and Control Your Costs

Train Your Trainer: Forklift Safety - Next Class February 23rd
How much would it cost in emotional and financial terms if your company experienced a serious forklift accident? How much is it costing you today with the small accidents that happen every day? Should there be a reportable accident, how comfortable are you that in a courtroom your forklift safety program won't wither under scrutiny?

One way is limiting the risk to your employees, product and equipment by having well trained and certified forklift operators. With new personnel coming in, and others changing positions, how can you manage your risk and control your expenses effectively?

One answer is by having your own forklift trainer on staff. An individual familiar with your equipment, your physical layout and your company's plan and vision.

Toyota Lift of Minnesota is holding another "Train the Trainer" course February 23rd. We invite you to look at the details and decide if it is time for you to control your risks and costs. Train the Trainer can be an easy choice.

How Good Is Your Forklift Technician?
Toyota forklift dealerships push themselves to be first in their class in all aspects of material handling goods and services. Customer driven, Toyota dealers focus on bringing the highest level of service to every customer interaction. No service might be closer to the customer than forklift maintenance, and no dealership employee is closer to that than the service's forklift technician

Should You Rent Forklifts? Pros and Cons
Once you have determined the type of forklift you want to get, you need to choose how you will acquire it -- rent or purchase.

Of course there are advantages and disadvantages to both. However, the decision rests on how you plan to use the lifts and how necessary it is for your company to own lifts.

"Why aren't you worried about our forklift creeping with the parking brake in use?"

First things first. Of course we are concerned. My guess is that your forklift creeps with the parking brake on because the truck is also with a load? Parking breaks should be tight enough to hold truck in position [forward and reverse] without a load. [No loads should be left unattended on truck, brake is not designed to hold that.]
Warehousing Systems
Fine-Tuning Your Warehouse Layout
Developing an efficient and safe warehouse can be challenging. Here is some advice from Walt Swietlik, director of customer relations and sales support for loading dock equipment company Rite-Hite.

1. Know your business requirements. Before you design your facility, examine your books. The data will show you what to expect in terms of stock turns, returns, and volume, which is the starting point for determining the size of the warehouse, the storage capacity required, and the number of dock stations needed.
