Informative Tools for Your Forklift Purchase
Purchasing anything as important to an organization as a forklift isn't an easy decision. What class of forklift will work best in your facility? Which fuel choice is right for you? What options and features exist that will improve your productivity and efficiencies?

Of course this is never a choice made alone; you will work with a sales representative from one or more companies so you can take in as much information as possible to enable you to make the best forklift purchase decision possible.

"Forklifts are dangerous when they're parked, really?"

Well under the right circumstances anything is dangerous, including your forklift.

Common safety points when parking are:
  • Hydraulic Drift: Don't park with loads in the air. Even well maintained hydraulic systems can change position over time and cause a load to drop.
  • Safety Exits/Equipment: Don't park where emergency exits are blocked, heavy traffic must go, or where emergency equipment such as fire extinguishers are stored.
  • Forks Down: Lower forks or attachments to help keep the truck from rolling and to avoid trip hazards.
  • Direction Control: Shift control to NEUTRAL even if parked for a short time.
  • Parking Brake: Make sure the parking brake works and use it every time you stop. Chock wheels if there is any question about the truck moving.
  • Key Switch: Turn the key switch off when you park.

All common sense stuff right?
Manage Your Risks and Control Your Costs
Train Your Trainer: Forklift Safety

Last Call For Class October 27th

Call or Email Today!

How much would it cost in emotional and financial terms if your company experienced a serious forklift accident? How much is it costing you today with the small accidents that happen every day? Should there be a reportable accident, how comfortable are you that in a courtroom your forklift safety program won't wither under scrutiny?

One way is limiting the risk to your employees, product and equipment by having well trained and certified forklift operators. With new personnel coming in, and others changing positions, how can you manage your risk and control your expenses effectively?

One answer is by having your own forklift trainer on staff. An individual familiar with your equipment, your physical layout and your company's plan and vision.

Toyota Lift of Minnesota is holding another "Train the Trainer" course October 27th. We invite you to look at the details and decide if it is time for you to control your risks and costs. Train the Trainer can be an easy choice.

Parts Department
A Sensible Forklift Parts Solution
All forklift service companies are tasked with supporting not only the equipment lines they represent, but any other line their customers may use. It is very common for forklift users to have multiple lines under their roofs. Finding qualified and reliable solutions for forklift parts sourcing can be a challenge. Toyota forklift dealers however, don't have that problem.

Understand that there are numerous after market programs available selling non-OEM or non original equipment manufacturers parts. Step cautiously through these options, when you're given just two choices to pick from quality, service and price. Quality will most often be the choice you're not given with forklift parts through these suppliers.

Service Department
It's More Than A Uniform
The forklift and material handling industry isn't unlike other industries or employers. We are all looking for responsible, skilled employees. Behind the rhetoric and corporate statements, it is a company's employees that allow it to deliver first class customer service. Without the right employees, we would be left performing at service levels equal to everyone else. Worn by a Toyota forklift technician, it is more than a uniform.

Toyota's dedication to quality has allowed us to be the #1 forklift supplier since 2002, leading to unparalleled opportunities for technicians interested in becoming part of an industry-leading company.

"Why do our lift chains get slack in them?"

Something is wrong with the mast. Operate the lift control to take up the slack before you move the truck and call on your servicing agent to review and fix that.
Warehousing Systems
Warehouse Fire Safety
When companies think about warehouse fire safety, they usually think of compliance to fire codes and OSHA regulations.  While compliance is a good starting point (and is obviously mandatory), there is more to warehouse fire safety than compliance.  Below are a few misconceptions about warehouse fire safety.
  • My warehouse just passed a fire inspection, therefore it must be up to code.
  • My warehouse is up to code, therefore it must be safe.
  • My warehouse was designed with a sprinkler system, therefore it can't burn down.
I must admit that like many other warehouse professionals, I spent many years taking this "ignorance is bliss" approach to fire safety.  As much as we all talk about safety coming first, safety projects rarely rate high on our prioritized project lists.  The difficulty in obtaining applicable safety and compliance information and the fear of opening a "can-o-worms" by using outside help, combined with the fact that you may have just passed a fire inspection, makes it easier to justify perpetuating ignorance of safety issues.  And certainly most companies can operate under these conditions and never have a serious fire.  Unfortunately, some companies will have a serious fire. The difference between a small financial loss and a catastrophic loss with the potential for loss of life, will come down to the level of fire safety knowledge and the application of that knowledge to warehouse design and operational practices.
