The Forklift Delivery Hack
|
You're busy, we get that, but it is important that you understand your purchase of that new Toyota forklift entitles you to much more than the use of your new equipment. With just a little time, and virtually no effort you can tap [hack] into all the resources that Toyota forklift comes bundled with. To draw those additional resources, take the opportunity to participate in Toyota's "Delivery Experience" when asked. Don't settle for the ownership of a new forklift, when that ownership entitles you to all the skills, knowledge and services that come with the dealership behind the forklift.

"We own an order picker that we use at a maximum height of maybe three feet. Do we really need to tie the operator off to the truck?"
I wouldn't recommend disregarding the potential dangers because you don't see them. Section 4.17.2(c) of ASME 56.1-2000 requires that whenever an operator-up high lift truck is used to elevate personnel, restraining means such as railings, chains, cable, body belt(s) with lanyard(s), or deceleration devices, etc. are in place and properly used. You don't want to find your company not complying with that during a routine OSHA inspection, and certainly not during an accident investigation. There are other equipment alternatives that might replace your equipment that remove the risk through others means, we hope you'll work with us.

Manage Your Risks and Control Your Costs
Train Your Trainer: Forklift Safety - Next Class October 27th
|
How much would it cost in emotional and financial terms if your company experienced a serious forklift accident? How much is it costing you today with the small accidents that happen every day? Should there be a reportable accident, how comfortable are you that in a courtroom your forklift safety program won't wither under scrutiny? One way is limiting the risk to your employees, product and equipment by having well trained and certified forklift operators. With new personnel coming in, and others changing positions, how can you manage your risk and control your expenses effectively? One answer is by having your own forklift trainer on staff. An individual familiar with your equipment, your physical layout and your company's plan and vision. Toyota Lift of Minnesota is holding another "Train the Trainer" course October 27th. We invite you to look at the details and decide if it is time for you to control your risks and costs. Train the Trainer can be an easy choice.

Forklift Tire Safety
|
Forklifts require a lot of focus on safety when anyone is working with them, or around them. That focus on safety is paramount when that forklift requires maintenance. Probably more safety concerns than the average Joe might think of when looking at a forklift down for maintenance or repair. But because of the forklift's fuel sources, its hydraulic system and the sheer weight of its components, forklift technicians need to be very aware of the dangers found on a forklift even as it sits dismantled in front of them. One area of concern that might be given less attention than it requires is the "simple" tire change.

Dance with the One That Brung Ya
|
What's best for the customer's business interests? Should a customer stay true to a dealership and its services because they purchase their equipment there? Isn't it true that there are lower cost options available? Aren't those companies offering cheaper forklift service just as keen on developing good customer relationships? The truth is the customer always has a choice of a lower cost solution, but those low cost providers simply don't have the tools to carry out their promise of lower costs. We'll get back to our lead in, you should at least consider why you'd want to "dance with the one that brought you." We can give you seven solid reasons.

"We know it's common sense, but what is the rule that tells us to use wheel chocks when a truck trailer is being unloaded here?"
OSHA regulation 1910.178(k)(1) "The brakes of highway trucks shall be set and wheel chocks placed under the rear wheels to prevent the trucks from rolling while they are boarded with powered industrial trucks."
Take it a step further and develop policies that have you monitor where the truck driver is when his truck is being unloaded. Too many of them are involved in moving their units while forklifts are still loading or unloading them.

Warehousing Systems
Help Me Fix My Warehouse
|
As a professional warehouse repairman (that's sort of what I do), I have quite a bit of experience with warehouse problems. And if your warehouse isn't running the way it should, I've got some good news and some bad news for you. The bad news is you probably have a whole bunch of things wrong with your warehouse. I can't remember ever evaluating a warehouse where there were only one or two things that needed to be changed. The good news is most warehouse problems are actually quite easy to fix, or at least improve to the point where they are acceptable. Even better news is you probably don't have to invest in expensive equipment or systems to implement most of these improvements.
