"What would you recommend as a top priority to prevent our staff from being struck by a forklift?"
First might be pedestrian training [there are materials available ask us] so those that will be working where forklifts work are aware of things like the lack of visibility drivers have, rear end swing, falling loads and wide swings.
Second, would be designated pedestrian walkways, and better yet walk ways outfitted with barriers. You're asking for trouble if you haven't taken some steps in this direction.

Keys to Great Field Service: Inventory Turns Are Irrelevant
|
Customer response time is key. Remember the Maytag repairman commercials? He lives in a perfect field service world. Your Maytag repairman has nothing to do because the product never breaks. He hangs out, is bored, and hopes the phone will ring so he can fix something. In this perfect imaginary field service world, inventory turns are zero. Inventory sits on the shelf and gathers dust. But in the real world, equipment breaks, and customers don't want to wait days or weeks to get service. Consider your last experience at the auto dealer/repair shop. If you had your car repaired the same day, chances are the dealer stocked the parts needed or they were delivered from a nearby depot.

"What's the least talked about forklift safety topic?"
That's a good question, and we'll jump at the opportunity to mention that ergonomics are very important in forklift design. Operators have enough to be concerned about without having to worry about the safety of their own body using the forklift. The forklift seat is critical and a driver can do a lot to minimize risk by watching these points: - Take your wallet out of your back pocket.
- Shift your hips all of the way back in your seat. This helps to position your spine with the proper 3 curve alignment. Be mindful to reassess how you are seated throughout the day.
- Slide your seat forward so that your feet can rest comfortably and so that the steering wheel is within easy reach.
- Adjust your backrest so that it is tilted slightly backward (not vertical). Using the backrest reduces the amount that your core muscles have to work and reduces stress on your back.
- If you have them, adjust your arm rests, lumbar support and headrest so you are sitting supported.
- Slow down to minimize shock and vibration. Vibration and shock causes our core muscles to work harder, eventually fatiguing them. Fatigued muscles lead to even worse posture.

Common Issues When Installing an Attachment
|
Two key points that are often overlooked when installing forklift attachments are the recommended flow rate and operating pressure of the attachment. When either one of these key points are overlooked they can create technical issues that can haunt the technician and cause additional operating expenses and down time for the customer. In some cases, there are additional components that will need to be added for the attachment to operate properly on the forklift.
