Cries from the Unheard
Let's say you are a company that needs a new or used forklift in the near future, but you don't really have any contact information for one of the local forklift dealerships, What do you do? Well, like the rest of us you likely go to your favorite search engine and type in some variation of "buy a forklift" and hit the button and you're off!

"I'm being asked to shut off my truck and pull the key every time I get off of it. I'm only getting off to pick an order, usually I'm still next to the truck, do I really need to shut it down?"

OSHA says that the truck is unattended if you're away from it by over twenty five feet, even if you can still see it. You are required to fully lower the forks, neutralize the controls, power the truck off, set the brakes and the wheels shall be blocked if the truck is parked on an incline.

If you are as close as you state, the requirements are almost identical. It may be time consuming, but your company's procedure certainly seems to do everything possible to maximize safety. Perhaps your picking procedures need to be reviewed. Did you see last month's video, it dealt with this point with a little humor.

Manage Your Risk and Control Your Costs
Train Your Trainer: Forklift Safety - Next Class January 27th
How much would it cost in emotional and financial terms if your company experienced a serious forklift accident? How much is it costing you today with the small accidents that happen every day? Should there be a reportable accident how comfortable are you that in a courtroom your forklift safety program won't wither under scrutiny?

One way is limiting the risk to your employees, product and equipment by having well trained and certified forklift operators. With new personnel coming in, and others changing positions, how can you manage your risk and control your expenses effectively?

One answer is by having your own forklift trainer on staff. An individual familiar with your equipment, your physical layout and your company's plan and vision.

Toyota Lift of Minnesota is holding another "Train the Trainer" course January 27th. We invite you to look at the details and decide if it is time for you to control your risks and costs. Train the Trainer can be an easy choice.

Parts Department
Efficiency Goes Only So Far
When enhancing customer service levels through the equipment dealership's parts department, you have to go beyond the obvious. It goes deeper than what parts are stocked and at what quantities. More than defining where a part is in its life cycle. It goes further than which ERP system drives stocking levels and replenishment orders. It is a lot more where parts are stocked, and what retrieval methods are used. What makes all of this possible is a seasoned, well trained staff that exists in numbers large enough that each area of concern is given a responsible amount of time continually.

"Just how fast is "too fast" in our plant?"

That's easy, when ever the speed exceeds the trucks ability to stop safely. Floor conditions, obstructions to visibility, snow, ice or wet conditions are all going to require you slow down. The speed your location can handle safely has to be mandated by those responsible for safety. This might be an excellent opportunity to use in deciding if an OSHA consultation visit is in order.
Service Department
The Inspection Cycle That Time Forgot
With a large percentage of forklift owners taking responsibility for the day to day maintenance of their equipment, we are seeing time and again that this self-imposed obligation is not getting the level of attention needed. Any forklift is an expensive tool that if maintained even poorly will certainly perform for its owners. But a well maintained forklift will do that for a much greater period of time, and with far less disruption and expense. Who doesn't enjoy a large return on an investment? To achieve that you need to focus on the forklift inspection cycle.

Forklift Rentals Present Options
It seems we are seeing the economy improve. Perhaps you're seeing an increased demand for product moving through your warehouse or yard and are finding yourself either short on lift trucks to move the product, or reliant upon units that are displaying their age too frequently with breakdowns and larger needed repairs.

You'd like to purchase new or used equipment, but just can't be certain the time is right, or maybe new equipment just isn't in this year's budget. You have options that you may not have considered, and we'd like to share those with you now.

Cluttered Receiving Areas: Problems and Solutions

Cluttered receiving docks seem to plague far too many industrial facilities. Part of the problem is that the way receiving affects the entire operation isn't clearly understood. Also, receiving functions are sometimes seen as a low-value-add part of the operation. Either way, adequate focus isn't always given to this vital function.  When you can't effectively receive shipments, everything upstream is compromised.

What causes the problems?
