Sales Department
Adding Sales and Customer Service Horse Power
|
Maybe you don't think of it as directly related to sales or customer service but, having the people in place to lend support to our unit sales staff and technicians is critical stuff in the world of customer service. No, this isn't about the back office support staff. Rather we're talking about the customer service representative that is out in the field every day following up on new and used truck deliveries, hand delivering quotes, introducing our company to business prospects, and even dealing with customer issues.

"I don't think the safety training I got when they hired me was anything other than a joke. I don't want to get killed doing this, now what?"
There are a lot of informational sources you can tap into if you have access to the web. OSHA has a great eTool site you can find through this link. The information at that site along with your knowledge of your equipment and work area should should give you the fundamentals you need to build on with additional experience.
If you don't have access to the web you can always reach for the truck's operator's manual. It is often full of safety topics and tips as well as a lot of other valuable day to day information. If there isn't one on your truck or trucks, they need to be replaced. It's an OSHA standard.

Parts Department
Prefer Low Cost Parts? Sit on This!
|
It seems there are no bounds to the non-OEM parts market; with the possible exception of low volume parts they seem to do their best to fill every need. Further it seems they're not against pursuing even the lowliest of parts. For example the small seat switch, I guess you'd go to the OEM manufacturer, ask them to make something similar in size but maybe just a little less in features, then turn around and market it as the same part. Do you think that works?

"I am being told I won't be allowed to use my forklift cab this winter because it's not safe. Do you know why?"
Well no.
I can only guess your cab is something you fashion from available material to protect yourself from the elements? The two biggest worries are you blocking your view up through the overhead guard or you welding or drilling supports into the overhead guard.
You have to be able to see up when your using the truck, your "cab" can't block your view. Also when you fasten your cab to the truck you can't do it by altering the integrity of the overhead guard. Welding or drilling into it is something you don't do as a rule.
There are some really low cost almost "disposable" forklift cabs available, we'll share some options with you.

The Inspection Cycle: Time Forgotten
|
With a large percentage of forklift owners taking responsibility for the day to day maintenance of their equipment, we are seeing time and again that this self-imposed obligation is not getting the level of attention needed. Any forklift is an expensive tool that if maintained even poorly will certainly perform for its owners, but a well maintained forklift will do that for a much greater period of time, and with far less disruption and expense. Who doesn't enjoy a large return on an investment? To achieve that you need to focus on the forklift inspection cycle.

Rental Department
What Are The Key Questions In Productivity?
|
A good, dependable, well specced forklift rental lets you effectively handle sudden increases in demand, such as unforeseen growth, added production shifts or avoiding demurrage charges on late arriving deliveries [if your rushing things through]. They can also serve as a replacement while another unit is in for repairs, or otherwise out of service. A rental might fill a temporary need, from a Taylor-Dunn stock chaser to perhaps a large forklift for an unusually big object or load.

Warehousing Systems
Hazard Communication in the Warehouse
|
Warehouses often store hazardous materials, these materials after all have to be warehoused and transported just like any other commodity. The presence of hazardous materials in the warehouse requires that a high degree of attention is given to communicating the dangers surrounding the material, what procedures are needed handling the material and what action points there are should something go wrong.
While never without risk, handling hazardous materials can be made safer with a sound approach to safety solutions.
