Taking Advantage of Your Equipment Delivery
Pete Delivery From our Toyota dealership peers ProLift, an excellent article dealing with opportunities to capture at the time of delivery.

Your forklift is being unloaded off the delivery truck. The dealer's sales consultant is also at your facility to ensure a successful arrival and answer questions. While it's quicker to sign off on the delivery paperwork and get back to your daily tasks, now is also an opportunity to learn more about your forklift.

Operator Training

Regulation requires each forklift operator to receive initial training as well as refreshers every 3 years. For operators out of compliance, make a note to enroll them in a safety training class. If your company does not handle training internally, work with your sales consultant to schedule training with the dealership or ask for vendor referrals. Operators must also receive refresher training if the forklift is a different model or manufacturer from your past or current fleet. Highlight unique features and how they affect operation. Lastly, perform a hands-on exercise on the new forklift with each operator.

"I'm getting some heat over the way I pull our pallet jack, what can I do wrong with that?"

That's too general to tell but there are two points you want to be clear on. Never pull a load down a grade. There is too much risk of the load pushing the jack into and then over you. Second, maybe not that common as far as it being a complaint is don't yank on the jack with a load to get it started. That isn't going to be good on your back and shoulders over time.
For the Veterans - Free Forklift Safety Certification
Know a Vet? Let's Help the Vet!
With the support of Toyota Material Handling, Toyota Lift of Minnesota has been certifying veterans for forklift operation for over two years. That work continues still. Our next class is scheduled for October 7th, with the next class scheduled for November 12th. You can read more about the October date and register through this link. Click here for the November date's information. Please forward to anyone that may be interested or qualified for this certification.

As stated, we will be continually offering additional dates through 2014. You can always watch our event calendar for updates on class scheduling. We work to have dates set on the calendar for the two upcoming months.

Our hats off to Toyota Material Handling for their ongoing support for our veterans.
Manage Your Risks and Costs
Forklift Safety: Act Now, Time To Register is Limited!
Limit risk to your employees, product and equipment by having well trained and certified forklift operators.

With new personnel coming in and others changing positions, how can you manage your risk and control your expenses effectively?

One answer is by having your own forklift trainer on staff. An individual familiar with your equipment, your physical layout and your company's plan and vision.

Toyota Lift of Minnesota is holding another "Train the Trainer" course September 23rd. We invite you to look at the details and decide if it is time for you to control your risks and costs. Train the Trainer can be an easy choice. Follow this link to see more.
Service's Luke Kocher
Racing Towards the Race Across America
Luke Kocher joined Toyota Lift of Minnesota just over two and a half years ago. Like many of us did before him, Luke started in shipping and receiving. Very quickly Luke was demonstrating that he had an excellent ability to learn and apply new information. It was obvious to many of us that his abilities could be used somewhere where there was a higher degree of responsibility and Luke was transferred into service to tackle the position of our planned maintenance dispatcher. Soon after that, he began taking up the responsibilities of service coordinator when there was an opportunity to do so. When a challenge was given to him, Luke always rose to meet it.

Need Tires? Of Course There Is an App for That
It seems like people do everything on their smart phones these days - from watching their favorite TV shows to exchanging text messages with friends to ordering a pizza. All you need to do is touch an app on your mobile device's screen and you can do practically anything!

Now there's a new app that allows you to fit and order new tires for your forklift.

The app is called "Interfit USA" and it was developed this month by Trelleborg Wheel Systems, a leading producer of solid industrial tires based in Akron, Ohio.

"What does it mean to inspect the area we're using the forklift, we use it everywhere?"

Easy then, walk around "everywhere" and be certain that debris and other obstacles are removed before you have the opportunity to run them over with your forklifts. Not only will you improve safety, but you'll lesson the likelihood of damage and increased maintenance costs.

6 Clues: Fight or Flight and Forklift Service
As a species, we humans are hardwired to make judgments regarding people, places and things. It is part of our fight or flight coding. To protect ourselves we have to determine quickly what we are to do when presented with something new or unfamiliar. It is an instinct that has served us well, look where it has gotten us. Are we relying on that instinct when choosing a service provider for our forklift fleet? Why is it that so many seem to ignore "that nagging feeling"?

Forklift Rentals, It Isn't Price
Renting forklifts is an activity that just about every business that sells or services material handling equipment will get involved in to some extent. The more established forklift dealerships with one or more original equipment lines will invest large amounts of equipment and resources in order to serve customer demand, while smaller less developed companies will capitalize on the occasional demand they meet with equipment that they have at hand.

Warehousing Systems
How to Create a Better Warehouse Layout

System integrator Bastian Solutions published an article recently with their thoughts on the better warehouse layout.

Toyota Lift of Minnesota offers the same service, we invite your call!

It is important that a warehouse has enough space to operate efficiently. However, it may be even more important that the space is laid out in a way that optimizes the warehouse's abilities.

Generally, multiple factors must be considered to maximize efficiencies when laying out an area. Because of this, a systematic procedure can be highly useful.

At Bastian Solutions, they utilize a warehouse layout planning process that usually consists of four phases, with each subsequent phase building on and incorporating more detail than the previous. This type of flow ensures that the project is fully understood before the team delves into layout specifics.
