 It was the opportunity to thank everyone. Employees, customers and vendors were all invited to spend a few hours meeting and dining at Toyota Lift of Minnesota. The day outside could have been a bit sunnier, but the mood inside certainly made up for it. The morning and early afternoon were filled with everyone mingling and enjoying the company of others. People were surrounded by conversation, equipment and the trappings of the industry, all while taking in the smell of the day's lunch. It certainly seemed like everyone had a wonderful time, More than a few took the chance to tour some of our facility and sit in or simply gape at one forklift or another.

 "You wrote about the safety hack recently, just how true is that?"
The title was meant as a teaser not a statement of fact. I received more than a few comments with it. Toyota's System of Active Stability is in my opinion a safety option that any safety manager would give his eye teeth for. It does not however replace the need for maintaining a well trained and well supervised staff of forklift operators. You can read the original post on the safety hack here.

 With the support of Toyota Material Handling, Toyota Lift of Minnesota has been certifying veterans for forklift operation for over two years. That work continues still. Our next class is scheduled for July 16th. You can read more about that and register through this link . Please forward to anyone that may be interested or qualified for this certification. As stated, we will be continually offering additional dates through 2014. You can always watch our event calendar for updates on class scheduling.  Some choices are easy, no-brainers. Eat healthy, get enough sleep, drive safely and obey traffic rules. Other choices aren't so easy or at least get tangled up in information or the lack of information. The newest diet fad, the best car, that garden or yard tool that will make everything so much easier. Choices at work aren't any different. There are easy choices and then those that get tied up in misinformation or a lack of good information.. |
"We use two different lift platforms with our forklifts, what's the biggest problem with them?"
It's a subject that gets a lot of attention. First you can use lift platforms if they comply with all the safety requirements surrounding them. After that, the largest problem we've "seen" is people being transported in them while they are still elevated. In a word, don't.

 From well trained technicians to service vans stocked with the right parts at the right quantities, there are many tangible customer service points that can be addressed in the forklift service process. While the ratio is unknown, it's fair to say for every visible effort there is another unseen effort that also needs to be made in order to enhance customer service to the highest levels. |

 By design, the warehouse is a busy environment used by manufacturers, exporters, importers, transport businesses and wholesalers, among others. It is also a workplace that has safety concerns at every turn, docks, racking, walkways, lighting, and air quality are just a few of the potential hazards that have to be addressed. Then of course there are the forklifts, running in and out of racking, crossing paths with and working near pedestrians.
