Predicting That Cost Per Hour
Predicting a forklift's cost per running hour is actually very easy to do and with a little information any original equipment dealer can do so. You only need to ask and a number will be presented to you. You will receive caveats from the dealer to make certain you don't take the cost per hour figure too seriously. What's all this about a holy grail you ask? Well, it's the search for a number that will be reasonably close to the actual cost per hour your truck develops over time.

"We've seen the videos and are interested in those blue forklift safety spotlights. They seem expensive though, why?"

Initially the first samples that I saw were expensive, that seems to have changed a great deal with prices almost half of what they started out to be.

We offer the light to our customers. You can see the product specifications and watch a descriptive video through this link. You can also order the material through the same site.

While anything that aids in safe operations is a plus, we caution you to stress to your forklift drivers that they turn to see where they are going and be mindful of pedestrians at any corner or intersection. Warn your staff who walk through areas where forklifts operate to be always aware of their surroundings. Complacency is a serial killer.
Rental Department
6 Scenarios When Forklift Rental Is the Best Option
Rental Keys Whether to buy or rent is a kind of tug of war which knows no winner. There are lots of factors when looking at the economics of renting versus buying. Both schools of thought usually level viable arguments to support their position. In forklifts and the heavy equipment industry as a whole, managers are constantly put to the task to decide whether they would rent equipment or buy it.

Remember, we invite you to call us at 763-425-9066 or 800-523-0611. We will put you in touch with your area's territory manager or our rental manager, answer your questions.
Manage Your Risks and Costs
Train Your Trainer: Forklift Safety
The management of risk, just what is it?

risk management
noun: risk management

1. (in business) the forecasting and evaluation of financial risks together with the identification of procedures to avoid or minimize their impact.

One form is limiting the risk to your employees, product and equipment by having well trained and of course certified forklift operators.

With new personnel coming in, and others changing positions, how can you manage your risk and control your expenses effectively?

One answer is by having your own forklift trainer on staff. An individual familiar with your equipment, your physical layout and your company's plan and vision.

Toyota Lift of Minnesota is holding another "Train the Trainer" course April 29th. We invite you to look at the details and decide if it is time for you to control your risks and costs. Train the Trainer can be an easy choice.

How Parts Databases Can Keep You out of Trouble
How much thought would you give to one? After all who wakes up in the morning wondering about the health of any parts database? Well alright more people than we might imagine, and all of them work daily at maintaining a database. Why you ask? As the title states, to keep you out of trouble.

"We purchased a snow blade for our forklift, and heard that it isn't legal"

I've seen the attachments myself and even considered them for purchase here. I did a little digging and all I can unearth is concerns around the plow being an attachment, and there being nothing mentioned about it on the truck's data tag. More, pushing snow around a slippery parking lot doesn't scream safe conditions. Heavy loads, uneven surfaces and using the machine for something the manufacturer didn't design it for may be all be looked at as unsafe. I wouldn't want to be the party responsible should an accident occur. Lastly you would want to ask yourself just how much strain you want to put on your forklift's final drive performing a function it wasn't designed for. Carriage rollers are designed to roll up and down, not attack ice and snow.  I would take a moment to review OSHA's general duty clause and see if these attachments don't test the edge of the safety responsibility envelope.

Service Department
Growing People to Serve the Customer
Customer service, where does it come from? There is something to be said that experience is the best training tool, and there are a fair number of successful companies out there that utilize it solely as their method of growing employees. There is also something to be said about what it means to the employee and customer service when a company takes it further and invests in formal job training to build employee confidence and enhance customer service.

A great seat grab, but ... almost certain it isn't real and we have to frown on any circus jumps performed by a forklift.

What Mom Didn't Tell You About Walking
She had our best interests at heart. She'd tell us it helps your ability to think, the fresh air and sunshine were good for us, that it reduces stress and that it would boost our energy and cut down on our fatigue. Yes, I suppose there is a place for all that, but what she didn't tell you is that it's a waste of time.

Walking has its place, and over the years more and more business are discovering that it is not in the workplace. Recently we put together an infographic to help bring the point home. We wanted to share that with you here.
