Kalmar Forklifts, Carrying Business
|
Toyota Lift of Minnesota is proud to say we are a dealer for the renowned Kalmar brand high capacity Lift Trucks. Kalmar is the industry leader in high capacity lift trucks in the world. They follow many of the same philosophies the Toyota brand is known for such as quality, operator safety, ergonomics and low operating costs. Toyota Lift handles the Kalmar 20,000-40,000 pound DCG 90-180 series truck and will work with applications to develop custom strategies. Kalmar trucks are fully customizable to fit your needs. This customization not only gives you the perfectly designed truck, but also increases driver's efficiency and decreases lifetime costs. Driving a Kalmar is like nothing you have ever experienced in a lift truck before; the new EGO cabin provides a sensation similar to hopping in your favorite car. Find out more about the Kalmar DCG90-180 Forklift through our brochure at this link.

"They want us to inspect our lift before we use it but nothing happens so what's the point?"
First it is an OSHA requirement that before each shift an operator will inspect his forklift with and without the unit running. I won't get into all that should be checked but will offer anyone that emails sales@toyotaequipment.com a free form or a pad or two for your equipment type.
Anything found in these inspections should be acted on immediately, with special concern for any safety item. Other issues more related to maintenance can save a great deal of maintenance costs if the issue or issues are caught in the early stages, if nothing else acting on these only makes sense. More, these forms should be held or filed and in a location separate from the equipment's maintenance file.
If you feel that safety concerns are being ignored, again email the address above, and we will discreetly dispatch one of our material handling consultants for a visit. If you are asked to do these inspections, you are a lot further along than the majority.

Rental Department
What to Expect When You Rent
| Our industry peer and fellow Toyota dealer ProLift Equipment published dealing with "What To Expect When You Rent." We would like to share that here.
A need for a forklift can be immediate or planned. Immediate needs can occur due to broken equipment, seasonal needs, or unexpected demand while planned needs are usually a result of bidding, contractual projects. For immediate needs, short-term projects and specialty lifts, the solution is renting. Forklifts can be rented daily, weekly, or monthly to meet your specific circumstance. So, what should you expect when planning to rent?

Service Department
Your Forklift, We Have Some Bad News
|
Nothing like a little controversy between the forklift sales and service department, it happens more often than we like perhaps, but some situations are entertaining. As a forklift service agency, we cherish the work that is brought into the shop. On occasion however a unit is rolled into a repair bay, and within a short period of time it's concluded that there are enough problems with it that repairing it would cost more than the value of the unit itself.

"On our mast, the bars above the forks are bent, and on a couple of trucks they're completely gone. We get mixed messages on what to do about them."
I believe your speaking of the load back rest or load rest extensions. You may be getting mixed message if your loads never extend above the height of the back of your forks. In that case you don't require the "extension". But ... most loads do have heights that are not completely supported by the forks, then the load back rest or extension is a requirement. As far as their condition, they have to perform their function fully or yes they should be replaced. If their height or width has been reduced by damage, you should have it repaired or replaced. It's unlikely that damage of any kind will be tolerated should most OSHA inspectors run across it, regardless of what it does or doesn't do to the level of functionality. We wrote an article about it here if you would like to see more.

Forklift Parts Back Orders and Open Orders
|
No one enjoys a forklift parts order that can't be finalized, especially our parts people. I've said in the past the perfect parts call is one where you have the part or parts needed in stock, at the right price, and you ship or deliver the order the day it's placed. Well things don't always go that well Read More

Just about Time for the Forklift Tire Sale ..
|
We are not in favor of equipment abuse or the unnecessary wear sometimes seen in forklift tires, but we thought we'd share this nugget. A little management by walking around can go a long way towards improving safety as well as cutting down on forklift maintenance costs.

Warehousing Systems
Excess Walking Makes "Zombies" of Order Pickers
|
There are hidden costs involved in any business and warehousing with the space involved is no different. We mentioned it in an article asking if " walking was overrated". Recently Cisco-Eagle took a slightly different look at the same topic. Studies indicate that order pickers spend too much time walking - according to many studies, distribution center employees routinely spend more than half their day walking, not picking orders, packing orders, or replenishing stock. They're going from point to point, burning man hours getting where they need to be, not working. And that's the average - for really poorly designed operations, it's worse.
