How fast are our forklifts allowed to travel?
While OSHA doesn't give a specific speed they do have code 1910.178(n)(1) that states:
"All traffic regulations shall be observed, including authorized plant speed limits. A safe distance shall be maintained approximately three truck lengths from the truck ahead, and the truck shall be kept under control at all times."

Rental Department
Are Rentals the Option for You?
| From an article through Material Handling and Logistics. Rentals for any length of time, whether one day or one year, require the customer to pay a premium for the convenience of returning a lift truck at their leisure. While rentals can provide great flexibility, they are also more costly. From the author Josh Bond:
It can be said that the recent economic downturn was the catalyst of modern fleet management, forcing lift truck fleet owners to analyze their operations in ways they never had before. Not only has the market seen tremendous advancements in fleet tracking and monitoring technology, but it has also witnessed the evolution of lift truck financing options. Savvy customers have developed an understanding of a truck's economic lifespan, and lately more are focusing on the beginning of that life-the moment when a signature finalizes a purchase, rental or lease. Because that moment can make or break a company's efforts to optimize its fleet over the coming years, Modern spoke with industry analysts and lift truck finance experts to help readers prepare for that pivotal stroke of the pen.

Mind Your Flock: Greater Safety, Less Maintenance
|
Recently I published an article that speaks to the disregard so many give safety and vehicle maintenance when using forklifts at work. These insights are seen through one means or another and are chilling often in whats discussed. The common theme in the messages is the lack of concern over being seen, pointing to what seems obvious as a solution. Be present frequently where your equipment is being used. The article follows: OK first you'd think that today folks would have so much more to converse about rather than forklifts or how they drive them, yet daily, even hourly I see posts regarding just that. I'm here to tell you the first step towards safety in your organization relative to forklifts is simply keeping people responsible. Whether you do it with electronic devices or simple supervision you had better be doing something or you risk some awful behavior.
|
I've been to companies where they are continually honking their forklift horns. Safe sure, but it is annoying!
Well beyond us simply saying "better safe than sorry" you should understand the law:
OSHA states in 1910.178(n)(4) - The driver shall be required to slow down and sound the horn at cross aisles and other locations where vision is obstructed.
They go on to say: If the load being carried obstructs forward view, the driver shall be required to travel with the load trailing.

Forklift Parts, Buy Them Cheap or Buy Them Right?
|
When looking for replacement forklift parts there seems to be no limit to the number of choices a customer is given. Those choices run the gamut from the dealership the unit was purchased through to the countless options presented through the brilliant source of information called the internet. The problem with any parts sale is information, and while the basics seem easy enough, matching part to the model of the unit, the devil is often in the details and you are certainly going to want to limit your exposure to the risk of getting the wrong part by working with the people with the most tools to help you in that effort. Loading Dock Safety
|
The loading dock is often the busiest point in any facility. Product, personnel, forklifts and of course truck drivers occupy this space simultaneously. Toyota Lift of Minnesota has insights as well as logistical and safety solutions for this area. Call us or contact us through our website. We welcome the opportunity to work with you. Recently Adaptalift an Australian Hyster dealer published a great article on this subject. We encourage you to take just a moment to see the points they make. As the main point of transport access for receiving stock and shipping goods, loading docks are an integral part of most warehouses. Forklifts, trucks and pedestrians travel through this space, making loading docks an extremely busy transport hub. Due to the high amount of traffic, in and around loading docks, it is essential that warehouse managers plan and enforce safety measures in order to provide optimal safety for all employees as well as minimize the risk of accidents. A well-planned and designed loading dock can minimize damage to goods, increase productivity and most importantly ensure employee safety. This blog will examine significant causes of loading dock accidents and will provide simple suggestions to overcome them. We will also cover how employers can create a safer loading dock environment.
