Equipment Financing Trends
|
It has been reported that leasing of material handling and other industrial equipment has increased over 20% from the same period a year ago. 1 It has been suggested that a major cause of this shift is a hedge against economic uncertainty. This can be in direct contrast from our stoic Midwestern attitudes. How can leasing (and the fear of debt) be healthier for my company than paying cash? If I don't owe anybody anything, how can I go broke?
The answer is fairly simple to understand and the benefits are easy to see. First off, leasing allows you to hang onto the precious cash just when you need it the most. When times are tough, receivables grow while your customers take longer to pay. Second, leasing also allows flexibility in your fleet size. If your sales are down, so is the number of pallets moving in your warehouse. As leases expire, equipment quantities can easily be adjusted. Another important benefit of leasing is the off balance sheet reporting. These expenses do not have as big of a hit to the bottom line as the removal of the acquisition price or the signing of a loan would trigger. There is also the maintenance benefit that is really important. Having a lift with a planned replacement cycle will guaranty that only equipment in the prime periods of their economic life will remain. When properly set up, old lifts are culled from the fleet before they cause undo hardships on maintenance budgets.

Built to Last or Just Made to Look That Way?
| More from our friends at Warehouse1 and excellent source for all things logistics and or warehousing.
There are a lot of questions surrounding the simple pallet jack. Toyota Lift of Minnesota rents pallet jacks. Use us as a source when you just need some equipment for a short period, or even if you want to sample what a jack is made of. See more here about our pallet jack offerings.
To the untrained eye, a pallet truck is a pallet truck. They all have two forks, a handle, a pump, lots of colourful steel, and wheels both big and small. What more do you need to know? This is easy, right? Well, no - not quite. The truth is that not all pallet trucks are created equal.
As similar as they look to one another, when one looks deeper into both form and function, the differences become readily apparent. These differences will determine why pricing on pallet trucks can vary so much from one brand to the next, despite a similar appearance. More importantly though, knowledge of these features will help buyers determine why to buy one particular truck over another. After all, knowledge is power!
As a machine designed to lift and transport loads in excess of 5,500lbs, the construction of a pallet truck is crucial to both its performance and its longevity. The more that goes into a truck, the longer it will last and the stronger it will be. There is, of course, a lesson in this: don't be fooled by a lower price point! Imitation brands and cheaper imports are cheaper for a reason; often times, production materials will be sacrificed in favour of cost-advantage. To the average user, this can be a costly oversight. Below are listed some of the key components of a manual pallet truck, features to look for, and a brief description of how some of these features vary between different models.

What We Care about Doesn't Matter
|
To expand on a point heard recently at a MHEDA conference. What we think matters may not matter. Our customer service reps [CSR] and technicians have had this drilled into them time and again what we think is important. Issues such as safety, productivity, equipment up time. Certainly what they've learned is valid, but while on the ground, in front of the customer they are face to face with to the true judge of what's important. What are their hot buttons, what's critical to them, how do they measure the service we are rendering, and are we meeting their expectations? If not, what is it that can be done to do that?

We'll Make It Special, Just for You
|
With all the talk of inventory levels, fill rates and utilization we don't want to overlook the fact that we are here to serve you in as many ways as possible. Sometimes that includes stocking "special parts". Special parts are rare [you can count them on one hand now], but they are certainly a reality. Customers develop an affinity for this or that part of a forklift being "in town" should the need arise. While often the need rarely does, let's just say it being close keeps them in their comfort zone. Read More

Warehousing Systems
Last in First Out?
|
Push back pallet storage racks operate by placing pallets on a series of nesting carts fed forward by gravity on structural steel rails. As a pallet is loaded from the front of the pallet racking systems, it pushes the pallet behind it back one pallet position. When unloading a pallet for the push back system, the front pallet is removed and the rear pallets automatically come forward leaving the next pallet in the front picking position. This allows for easily accessible Last in / First out (LIFO) inventory management.
