Request for Proposals: Urban Parks and Recreation Consultant

  

The Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society, Inc. is accepting proposals for a one-time contract to perform certain professional (consulting) services work involving developing urban recreation resources and best practices, building capacity for urban parks and recreation, and beginning the planning to develop a community park maintenance program in Pennsylvania.

*Volunteer Program Information:

Hersheypark will pay PRPS for each volunteer shift completed. In addition, each volunteer will also receive a voucher good for one of the following:

o One Hersheypark admission during the 2015 or 2016 season

o One admission to the 2015 Hersheypark In The Dark event

o One admission to the 2015 Hersheypark Christmas Candylane event

o One 2015 Sweet Lights ticket

 

Our group is continuing to work with the Ride Operations Department, so you will be assisting with duties such as queue line management, assisting with safety checks/operation of a ride or operating a kiddie-ride by yourself.

 

 

 

How to Hire the Right People

One of my most challenging and delicate personnel issues involved a young man I had hired for his first professional job. Unfortunately, a number of disturbing shortcomings surfaced soon after he completed his orientation and assumed his duties. Despite his willing cooperation and our collective best efforts in seeking ways to improve, he was unable to significantly improve his customer interaction and meet most of his responsibilities. After a few intense months, he and I both realized that he was floundering in a position for which he was simply unable to perform adequately. I asked him to look for another job and assisted him in his search.

Department of Conservation and Natural Resources: Nearly 100 hikes planned to showcase Pennsylvania's trails, walkways  DCNR new logo

 

New and experienced hikers can pick their pace and path through Pennsylvania's bountiful outdoors in one of nearly 100 organized hikes across the state during Hiking Week 2015, which stepped off Saturday, May 30. 

 

Special events planned by DCNR and the Keystone Trails Association will take place in parks, forests, cities and towns across the state. A schedule of hikes across Pennsylvania can be found here

Apply Now for Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance 

 

The National Park Service Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance program is now accepting applications for community-led conservation and recreation projects. This program can help state and local parks and recreation departments create close-to-home recreation opportunities and conserve natural resources with free on-location facilitation and planning expertise from NPS. This is a great way to get assistance with important conservation projects such as greenways, blueways and more! Check out the program and submit your intention to apply by July 15. Applications are due August 1.

DCNR Announces Secretary
