#PRPS Conference #BreakingTraditions
by Karen Hammond, Conference Publicity Committee
DCNR actively supports the PRPS conference, and this year they're offering some great opportunities to engage recreation professionals in updates to their plans and vision.
Monday, March 23 will have 4 sessions sponsored by DCNR...check them out:
-
9:00 am ~State Rec Plan in Action - Parks and Health~Diane Kripas will discuss how the health care system is connected to our parks, trails and open space. One of the top priorities of the PA Outdoor Recreation Plan is to develop the connection between outdoor recreation and healthy communities.
-
10:30 am ~Develop an Implementable Plan For The Future~Cindy Dunlap, Bob Good and Ann Toole step outside box and show how an innovative approach to a "Comprehensive Recreation, Park and Open Space Plan" can accomplish your goals and get improvements done. Your new process will also engage your community.
-
2:00 pm ~State Rec Plan in Action - Love Your Parks~Daphne Klahr will join Diane Kripas in reviewing key factors that influence your community's use of parks. Walking is a popular activity, and since one of the top priorities of the PA Outdoor Recreation Plan is enhancing local parks and recreation services, you will hear how they plan to recommend and implement best practices in the Philadelphia and Reading areas to achieve this goal.
-
3:30 pm ~DCNR News, Updates and Feedback~Lauren S. Imgrund, Bureau Director, PA DCNR, Bureau of Recreation and Conservation, will lead a discussion highlighting new recreation and conservation program opportunities. She will review the 2014-2018 State Rec Plan and Get Outdoors PA. This will be a very interactive session, so be prepared to share.
As you browse through your registration guide for the 2015 Annual PRPS Conference, no doubt that you have noticed that on page 7 it lists 4 great opportunities for some alternative education! It's always nice to step away from the "classroom" style of learning and explore local amenities. On Sunday, you have the opportunity to tour Spooky Nook Sports Complex, which is the largest Indoor Sports Complex in the country! As you will see it is an #amazingrecfacility. On Monday, you can earn CEU's by taking the #insidelook Greener Days - Healthier Ways tour with the Lancaster Recreation Commission and the Lancaster Public Works Department for an in-depth look at how their highly successful program provides super services with a 'green and healthy twist'. For the #historybuffs among you, you can start your day on Tuesday with a Historic Lancaster City Guided Walking Tour led by a costumed interpreter. You are sure to learn more about the city than you ever dreamed! Finally, later on Tuesday, you can take a bike tour. You will see local trails from one side of the area to the other, and the ride is on a paved path for your ease and accessibility. No bike? There will be 20 bikes available for those that need!

(If you are a DVIT Member you can receive $100 off your registration if you are one of the first 30 DVIT registrations. Go to page 22 in the registration guide for more details).

The MasterPoint™ Series for the ascendant professional
Advancing from Eligible to Qualified to Successful
I once received this real cover letter by a hopeful but clueless job applicant (quoted here exactly):
Dear [Mr./ Herd]
Throughout my tenure [at specific name of company, with my current employer,] I frequently had the opportunity to use my [skill or skill set] and I'm proud that [I, we] were able to [grow size of business, increase productivity, increase sales, meet deadline]...
Unfortunately, it went on like that for another three agonizing paragraphs! I'll spare you the rest.
