Farewell to Our Education & Training Coordinator

 

Denise Shivery, our Education and Training Coordinator, has resigned. Her last day is Friday, October 31. Unfortunately for PRPS, Denise will be moving on to a new opportunity at Penn State in the Office of Ethics and Compliance. We wish you the best of luck!

 

 

2015 Trail of the Year - Final Call!

Build a Natural Play Area With This Grant

 

In partnership with the American Water Charitable Foundation (AWCF), NRPA is pleased to announce the continuation of grants to build nature-based play areas and promote water stewardship education in select communities. The Building Better Communities program awards grants in the range of $50,000 to $150,000 for projects creating natural play areas and nature-based playgrounds. The list of eligible communities and grant requirements is available in the grant application.

 

AWCF awarded NRPA $2.5 million to work with local communities on these types of projects over a five year period. This request for applications is for grant projects taking place in 2015. Applications will be accepted until December 5, 2014.

Join the Lancaster Recreation Commission and the Lancaster Parks Department Staff for an in-depth look at how our City delivers a cost-effective public parks and recreation services with a green and healthy twist. The tour will showcase our most popular park spots, unique facilities, public art, and successful programs and partnerships. At all stops we will tour facilities and discuss operational challenges and successes. Destinations include: Beau's Dream Dog Park, Rodney Park Senior Center, Long's Park, Brandon Park, Fulton Elementary School, Clipper Magazine Stadium, and the Lancaster Recreation Center. Lunch will be provided.

Historic Lancaster City Guided Walking Tour

Did you know that Lancaster was once the capital of the U.S.? Discover all the history and beauty of this wonderful city guided by a costumed interpreter. This presentation will familiarize you with the rich history of this central Pennsylvania town from early settlers through being the largest non-coastal colonial village to its role in the Revolutionary and Civil War eras. Wear comfortable shoes for walking.

 

Bike Tour and Lunch

Richard Conner, Vice President of the Lancaster Bicycle Club, will lead this ride from the Convention Center through Lancaster City to the paved Conestoga Greenway Trail. Participants will enjoy the ride along the Conestoga River, then travel back to the City for lunch at a local restaurant. Bring your own bike or rent one from the Common Wheel ($10-$15 rental fee). Bring money for lunch.
