Let's Move PA

At the Let's Move! Pennsylvania conference, participants will find tools and information needed to promote healthy food, beverage, and physical activity environments for children in homes, schools, and communities.

Nearly one third of Pennsylvania's children are overweight or obese. The rates have tripled in the last 30 years. These children will suffer from many chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, and heart disease as a result. Lifestyles have drastically changed since decades ago; instead of walking to school or playing outside, kids are riding to school and have much more screen time.

At this conference, you will:

  • Learn about the latest research findings from Penn State University that impact this issue
  • Gain knowledge of best practices from PA Communities
  • Encourage partnerships that enable individuals and communities to utilize best practices to contribute to policy change that makes an impact on this issue

Early Registration Fee Deadline: September 15, 2014

Member News

Congratulations to Chris Lessig!

Chris recently accepted a new position as Activity Project Manager with the County of Volusia, Florida!

Gary Smith, PRPS long time member and retired from PA Bureau of State Parks, volunteers as a bone marrow courier with the National Marrow Donor Program.  He has made over 118 trips and they have taken been all over the United States, Canada, Europe, and even Africa.

Gary signed up to participate in By The Mile for Be The Match® to raise funds to help match volunteer marrow donors with patients who have blood cancers, like leukemia or lymphoma. Most patients needing a marrow transplant need to turn to the Be The Match Registry® to find an unrelated donor. But, Be The Match doesn't stop there. The organization also helps cover uninsured costs for patients, like co-pays or transportation to and from the hospital, and they fund research projects to improve transplant success.

This summer Gary is pledging to ride for patients in need. Please click here if you are interested in helping Gary reach his goal.
