Condolences to the Victims of the Ross Township Shooting
PRPS member Dave Fleetwood, Chestnut Hill Township Supervisor and Ross Township Zoning Officer, was killed Monday evening when a gunman opened fire on a Ross Township municipal meeting. Two others were killed and three were injured in the shooting. Local authorities credit PRPS member Bernie Kozen, Executive Director of the West End Park and Open Space Commission, and another meeting attendee with stopping the rampage by tackling the shooter. Please see full details here.
Our condolences go out to Dave's family, and those of the other victims in this terrible tragedy. In addition, our thoughts are with Bernie as he recovers from the loss of his colleague and friend. We thank you for your selfless action and are proud to have you as a member.

Why virtue matters
Even when it hurts, it's good.
New research from the University of Notre Dame found that people can purposefully and dramatically reduce their everyday occurrences of lying, and in doing so, significantly improve their physical health.
Not only that, the "Science of Honesty" study also revealed that truth-tellers improved their interpersonal relationships and enjoyed smoother social interactions than when they used to whitewash their lives with lies.
Well, whadayaknow?
Slippery as the truth can be, it's absolutely better applied than denied.

Question #1 We are a small township, looking for information on policies for field usage for township and non-township organizations. Specifically, we would like to know how other small townships in PA work with community recreation associations and travel (private) associations regarding field scheduling and usage. Our current park is at capacity (4 ball fields shared with softball and baseball) and are building a second larger facility. We are constantly complimented on the quality of our fields, and have been approached by several private groups (such as a travel softball association and a travel soccer association) looking to use our fields. Many of these private groups have children enrolled in their programs that our residents of our Township as well. We would like to develop some guidelines, and are looking for a place to start. Thanks! Stacia Ritter, Carroll Township, Recreation Board Question #2 I'm looking for municipalities or park systems that have a "no smoking in parks" policy in effect? Thanks!
