Don't Forget! HOMEWORK TRACKER

Attention all AIM High students! Homework Trackers will be collected this week in Leadership Institute. This time around you will be tracking all of the assignments from your math class the week of October 22nd - 27th. Remember, you gain one incentive point for turning it in and one point if you've completed every assignment for the week. If you do not remember to complete the sheet by Leadership Institute, then you will lose an incentive point.  If you need a new sheet, follow this link!

  

 
Local College Visit to North Park University

 

This year, the Local College Visit will be to North Park University! The trip will include a presentation from the North Park admissions office, a student panel, a campus tour, and free lunch in the cafeteria.     

   

Date: November 14th, 2012, 9:30am - 1:30pm
Location: North Park University, 3225 W. Foster Ave. Chicago, IL 60625
Transportation: Each school will provide transportation for their students.  
We are also looking for a few UCW and Urban Prep- Englewood parents to join us for the day to serve as chaperones on the buses and at the event. Please contact Harrison Stamell at the Companies That Care office by Friday, November 9th - 312-661-1010.

Upon Arrival: Meet in the Lobby of Old Main.  Parking may be found in the Visitors Parking Lot on the corner of Foster and Kedzie Avenues.  Buses may park in the "loading zone" area on Kedzie Avenue.

AIM High Seniors, we can't wait to kick-off the year with you!  Come celebrate your success thus far, receive advice for the future, and plan for your final year high school.  Plus, we'll have pizza!

Senior Winternships

Attention all Seniors!  This winter break, why not make good use of your time with a week-long internship?  If you are interested in beefing up your resume and getting some hands on experience in the field of your choice, let Harrison know. Be sure to send him an email by the end of Novembr that includes your interests and availability from December 27th - January 1st.  The sooner you get in touch with him, the more likely he can find the internship of your dreams.  Email [email protected] by November 30th!

HOMEWORK TRACKER

This week we have assigned the first Homework Tracker of the year.  Homework Tracker is our surprise check-in with the students to see if they have been staying on top of their homework.  This week, students will track their assignments from math class the week of October 22nd - 27th.  Please remind your students to turn this in during Leadership Institute.   If you'd like a copy of the Homework Tracker, follow this link!

Terrific Tales Story Time with the Storybook Mom-Nili Yelin

Who: All AIM High students, parents, mentors, and friends with younger siblings or children between the ages of 3 and 10

What: A fun and interactive family literacy time with the Storybook Mom-Nili Yelin

Why: The goal of these story time sessions is to use engaging story telling techniques to promote family literacy. This is an opportunity for the whole family to fall in love with reading!

Theme: Turkey Day

Where: Kelly Public Library, 6151 South Normal Blvd. Chicago, IL 606021

When: November 24th, December 15th and once a month throughout the school year

 

Who is the Storybook Mom?

Nili Yelin is the Chicago Ambassador for Literacy for World Read Aloud Day which is presented by LitWorld.org. Nili uses an interactive and engaging storytelling technique called "Sit Down Stand Up." This technique is based on the belief that children love to see adults be silly.

 

Nili Yelin has received rave reviews for her amazing storytelling abilities:
