Non-profit Gains Greater Security by Outsourcing

 Outsourcing pays off for Maryland

State Heath Pharmacy (MSHP)

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC US) and CSO magazine just released the 2013 State of Cybercrime Survey, which reveals that while cybercrime threats are on the rise, current attempts to counter them remain largely unsuccessful.

The Maryland Society of Health-System Pharmacists (MSHP) is staffed by dedicated member-volunteers, who provide a wide range of educational and professional services to the pharmacy community who works in state healthcare institutions. When MSHP's website was repeatedly hacked, they engaged Software Consortium (SCI) to design and build a new website. SCI recommended a solution that also brought new capabilities for MSHP to serve its membership and mission more effectively.

Business cites top 3 high-value capabilities from outsourcing:

  • Better talent (70%)
  • Access to better technology (62%)
  • Improved analytic capabilities (74%).

Higher Competency with Lowered Cost

Thirty thousand new malware threats enter the Internet each day and many organizations struggle to protect their websites from inherent code vulnerabilities. The hacking of MSHP's website amplified the need for new investment, but the organization had also outgrown its member database. Its volunteers were spending too much time on routine administrative tasks and inefficiencies were impacting financial operations and timely service to members.

An MSHP Board member had worked with Software Consortium (SCI) and knew SCI could accomplish MSHP's technology goals cost-effectively. He made the referral for SCI to design and develop the website.

In situations where cost is a key driver, SCI delivers great value with its team approach. There is up to a 10:1 productivity difference between individual performers. Because SCI hires top talent, they can provide the right consultant to manage and execute a project from start to finish, while bringing these productivity advantages to the client. What's more, SCI's approach is backed by the strength of its organization to ensure their clients are in the top 26% of software projects that succeed.

Read about the details of the approach.

Outfitted with its new website and membership management capability, MSHP can deliver information and services more rapidly with less labor. The efficiencies have helped the organizational leadership shift time from administrative tasks to achieving strategic goals. "Outsourcing to SCI enabled our team to maintain its focus on running the organization, while a critical IT need was addressed. They helped us bypass a maze of possible solutions to determine the best one to advance our mission and position us for long-term success," said Ray Lake.
