monthly update
Oak Knoll School

October 20, 2015

Dear Parents,

As we settle into the school year, I appreciate the strong partnership we have with you. We all work towards the same goals, to raise and educate exemplary scholars, valued friends and courageous citizens. We want our kids to be compassionate, curious, and confident. To meet our students' needs, we lean on you, and we expect that you lean on us, trusting that we have your child's best interest in mind. It is ideal. As we think about our partnership, here are a few updates and information worth noting:

  • MPCSD Strategic Directions will be one of the most important conversations to engage in this year. I will be facilitating the meeting along with our district leaders, Dr. Maurice Ghysels and Erik Burmeister. Join us tomorrow for the Oak Knoll Parent Input Session, Wednesday, October 21 at 8:15am in the Oak Knoll Library. I hope to see you there! Stay tuned for more details on how you can provide input if you are unable to attend.
  • The 2015-16 Oak Knoll School Site Plan has been developed and approved by the Oak Knoll Site Council and the MPCSD School Board. The plan includes measurable goals in all three areas of our mission: exemplary scholar, valued friend, and courageous citizen. Our goals are aggressive and continue to include all student groups, holding us accountable to our mission.
  • Come CONNECT at the Book Fair tomorrow night! Bring your whole familia, famille, familj, cemya, kazoku for Family Night on Wednesday, October 21 from 6:00-8:00pm where there is sure to be fun on a global scale! The book fair is also open all week, MTWF 7:45am to 3:30pm, Th 7:45am to 2:00pm.
  • Specialist Showcase Tours will be the way to check out how your MPAEF donation is enriching your child's education through Art, Music, Library and PE! Tours will be during the final week of the MPAEF campaign. With many options from November 2-6, and last about an hour. Come shadow our students and see these amazing programs from kindergarten to 5th grade! Call the Oak Knoll office to sign up.
  • Building on our continual work and goals to develop growth mindsets in all of our students, we are offering parents an exciting new way to get involved and mirror the work your children are doing at school. Starting in November, we would love for you to participate in a 30 minute, free online mini-course that teaches parents how they can help their children develop a growth mindset. Once you complete the course, you will receive a super-cool "This Family has a Growth Mindset" magnet for your car! We will kick this initiative off at our next Coffee Talk on November 10 from 8:15-9:15am in the gym. Join us and bring a friend!
A big thank you for participating in our PTO campaign and supporting what I like to call, the icing on the cake! Together we are providing a world-class education and experience for our students.

In partnership,
