As spring approaches, many parents have questions regarding class placement for next year. Please hold tight, it is still early. Communication will be coming out during early April. Please hold off from meeting with your classroom teacher about this. There will be chances, in the near future, to provide input.
|
The next coffee talk with Mrs Gracia will be held on March 10 at 8:15am when she will be joined by Mrs. Kessler and they will review parents' feedback from the recent Site Council Survey and share some upcoming school developments, including a preview of a World Language program. They are also planning a NIGHT meeting on the same topic on March 24, at 7:00pm!
Mark your calendars with upcoming Parent Coffee Talk dates: March 10 at 8:15 am (or March 24 at 7:00pm), April 7 at 8:15am, May 12 at 8:15am, all in the Gym.

Call for Service Award Nominations
|
Tell Us About an Exceptional Volunteer! Every year our District is fortunate to have parents, teachers, staff and community volunteers give generously of their time, skills and creativity to our schools. Many programs would not exist if it was not for this formidable group of volunteers, "the Pillars of our Community." Honorary Service Awards (HSAs) as well as the School Service Awards (SSAs) recognize those individuals who have contributed in an extraordinary way to our District. Please take a moment to nominate someone you know who goes above and beyond to make a difference in our schools. Book of the Month: The class read-aloud book for March, and the first book in our section of Compassion on Generosity, is Sam and the Lucky Money by Karen Chinn. Sam can hardly wait to go shopping with his mom. It's Chinese New Year's day and his grandparents have given him the traditional gift of lucky money-red envelopes called leisees (lay-sees). This year Sam is finally old enough to spend it any way he chooses. Best of all, he gets to spend his lucky money in his favorite place - Chinatown! But when Sam realizes that his grandparents' gift is not enough to get the things he wants, his excitement turns to disappointment. Even though his mother reminds him that he should appreciate the gift, Sam is not convinced - until a surprise encounter with a stranger. With vivid watercolor paintings, artists Cornelius Van Wright and Ying-Hwa Hu celebrate the sights and sounds of festive Chinatown streets. In her picture book debut, author Karen Chinn tells the affecting story of a child who discovers that sometimes the best gifts come from the heart.
Community Service Fair: On March 13 students will attend an assembly with Free the Children, an organization that was started by Craig Kielburger in 1995 when he was 12. Their message is to inspire our students that no matter what age you are - YOU can make a difference. Then at lunch 1st-5th graders will be able to do small service projects at our Community Service Fair.
Counselor Classroom Visits: Are you a Multiplier or a Diminisher? Nicole will be going into the classrooms to teach the concepts covered in Liz Wiseman's book Multiplier (she is speaking at Hillview on March 12). Students will explore what those two concepts are and discuss how we can all be a multiplier.
