Veteran's Day is approaching and Oak Knoll would like to honor our students' family members who serve or have served in the armed forces. Please send a 5x7 photo or smaller (do not send originals as the photos will not be returned), along with their name, military branch, rank, number of years served, tours/stationed and the students name and relation to service personnel and we will display it (this info should fit on an index card). Please see samples. If you have any questions, email Nicole Scott with Honor Wall in the subject.

Vincent Lopez, Kindergarten Teacher
Favorite thing about Oak Knoll: The positive attitudes and approaches to learning that everyone has. Students, teachers, administrators, and parents all value and appreciate the power of education.
Share a passion of yours: Guitar and music, motorcycles, rock climbing, 4x4 off roading.
A fun fact about yourself: I have over 50 pairs of fun socks that I wear to school, pizza socks, motorcycle, popcorn, superman socks, the kinders love to see my socks every day.
A favorite quote: "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." -Benjamin Franklin
Jacqui Cebrian, Reading Specialist K-3
Favorite thing about Oak Knoll: I love our "kids can" attitude about everything. I value the leadership who believes that "teachers can". I've taught in different districts and in different states, but I've never loved a school like I love Oak Knoll.
Share a passion of yours: As a teacher, I love to help kids connect with books and stories - in whatever ways they can. I love the look on a child's face when they're excited about a book I helped them find or when I see them reading and walking. Brings a smile to my heart every time. I'm also on the Menlo Park Library Commission. And more recently have been involved in city efforts to improve the Belle Haven neighborhood - which just for the record is in northern Menlo Park.
A fun fact about yourself: I've been to 49 of the 50 states. I love to travel, camp, hike, and mountain bike (and sew and knit) on my off time.
A favorite quote: "You have brains in your head, and feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose." -Dr. Seuss

This PTO-sponsored presentation is recommended for all parents interested in an overview of the digital landscape and learning about thoughtful strategies to navigate media with their children. You can learn more about My Digital TAT2 at http://www.mydigitaltat2.com/
Please note that this is a parents-only event.

Near the lost and found a compassion tree has started to grow. If your family participates (or has already participated this year) in an act of compassion (a clean up, delivering food, a run for charity), please get an apple from the office and let us know about it. Turn in apples to the office and we will share this act with your child's classroom and some will be shared on KNOL. Let's help our tree grow! Any questions, please email Nicole Scott with "Compassion Tree" in the subject line.

Music Notes from Bee Tee: Fall 2014

and instrumental playing. The students are also learning to solfege with hand signs and will soon be improvising in the pentatonic modes. We will be presenting the program "I See Fall" in December.form of action song. Right now, the students are working hard on a piece of music called," Canon In C, composed by the 17th century English composer, Henry Purcell.
What do you do after an unforgettable show like the Wizard of Oz? You follow it up with Willie Wonka Jr! And that's what the 4th and 5th graders will be doing next spring.
"Willie Wonka Jr" is the musical adaptation of Roald Dahl's story "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," a story which is no doubt familiar to all Oak Knoll students. We're excited about this upcoming production. Stay tuned for more information regarding auditions and rehearsals that will be announced soon in our weekly Oak Knoll newsletter.
